Rejection often finds its way into our hearts at an early age. Perhaps as a child you were teased mercilessly for your hair or clothes, or you received an injury and couldn't play the sport you loved and had to watch from the sidelines, or maybe like Lysa TerKeurst, an adult who should have cared for you and nurtured you, left without explanation. These wounds dig deep into our sense of self, and can resurface in surprising ways as an adult. However, this doesn't have to be the end of the story.
In Uninvited, Lysa shares honestly from her own struggles with rejection and gives readers concrete truths to combat the lies our old Enemy hurls our way. You can stop feeling left out, because even when you are overlooked by others, you are handpicked by God. You can change your tendencies to either fall apart or control the actions of others by adopting healthy ways to process your hurt. You are designed for a love without limits, a love that will never let go.
Noteworthy: This author is one of a special group of women who writes for (in)courage, the popular online friendship community. Every day they take turns pulling up a chair to share their stories of what Jesus looks like in their every day, gloriously ordinary, and often messy lives.
If you read the (in)courage blog online, then you'll be sure to enjoy this title.

The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than. When we allow him to speak lies through our rejection, he pickpockets our purpose. Cripples our courage. Dismantles our dreams. And blinds us to the beauty of Christs powerful love.
In Uninvited, Lysa shares her own deeply personal experiences with rejectionfrom the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father to the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over.
With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa helps readers:
- Release the desire to fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process their hurt.
- Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady their soul and restore their confidence.
- Overcome the two core fears that feed our insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging.
- Stop feeling left out and start believing that "set apart" does not mean "set aside."
- End the cycle of perceived rejection by refusing to turn a small incident into a full blown issue.
"Lysa has done it again! You absolutely won't be able to put down this book. It's compelling from the first page to the last. With her trademark vulnerability, Lysa lays out a heart-felt means to managing the fears, rejections, insecurities and unsteadiness we all experience. Trust us when we tell you that you've never read a book like this before. Don't miss out. We simply can't recommend Uninvited enough." -Drs. Les & Leslie Parrott, #1 NYT best-selling authors of Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts
"Lysa TerKeurst has an undeniable gift for sharing her heart's struggles in ways that strengthen and equip the lives of others. I can't remember the last time I read a book with so many insights into human nature and even more gold nuggets of biblical truth. Don't miss this book-it will bless you more each time you read it!" -Chris Hodges, Senior Pastor, Church of the Highlands, Author of Fresh Air and Four Cups
"This book is a MUST READ. Lysa speaks beautifully yet prophetically to a culture that uniquely is able to see what our friends are eating, playing, doing, and planning at any moment with the little device in our pocket. My favorite part is that Lysa turns our eyes to what's most important though, and that is the great invitation we have to sit at the table with the Living God who has been for us from the beginning." -Jefferson Bethke, author of Jesus>Religion and It's Not What You Think
GazpachoHarrison, MIAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Getting to the root of our feelings of rejection to seeing our life in God's eyesJanuary 8, 2018GazpachoHarrison, MIAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5At some point in our life, we are going to feel left out, left behind, or lonely. It is an inevitable part of being a human being and of human nature. We are inherently social creatures for the most part. Of course, it fluctuates throughout our lives in stages, as if it is a pendulum swinging back and forth. And some people naturally seem to need more social contact than others. But that normalcy is not what the author addresses in this book. Instead, she delves into the deep end of the pool when life hits us with a hammer blow and we find ourselves rejected, left out or even turned out deliberately. How do we survive such a blow?
The author tells some of her own story. She's done research on rejection in humans and found two core fears that feed a person's sensitivity to rejection: the fear of being abandoned and the fear of losing one's identity. Her story confirms that she understands these fears well. She had once been abandoned, and with her father went her identity. She knows how it feels to lose in this deliberate way and writes from this knowledge one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Her core beliefs led her to feel unwanted, even by God. How do you overcome that?
For me this book was so powerful that I would read sections of it over and over to get all I could out of it. I couldn't just sit down and read the book as a fiction novel. I had to read it piece by piece and leave plenty of time between the reading to contemplate what I learned. I'm also a book underliner. When I find something especially meaningful to me, I underline or highlight or circle or bracket it in some way to bring my attention back to that part. Judging from those markings in my copy of the book, the entire volume spoke to me in a very personal way. Every few pages were marked in some way. Lysa TerKeurst's words touched me. They confirmed that I was not alone in this struggle. They affirmed that someone else had floundered around feeling lost on the inside while trying to look normal on the outside.
Several months ago I happened to read about this book on a Bible Study website. I knew immediately that this book would be able to help get me out of the funk I had fallen into. So I ordered the Bible Study material to go along with the book and the online group sessions. For me, the most valuable resource was the book itself. The study material was nice, and the online videos were uplifting, but it was the book that I needed the most. It helped pave the way for my inner healing.
My opinion is that Lysa TerKeurst's book is an effective tool that God can use to bring healing to the parts of us that have been ripped apart and torn to shreds by people and circumstances determined to stomp us into the ground. What she writes is much more than an affirming pat on the head and empty promises of a kinder future. We don't need that. There are already plenty of books that do that. The author goes way beyond mere platitudes and gets down to our core beliefs and builds on them. She clarifies them and helps us understand them so they can provide a stable foundation where God teaches us to do life in spite of setbacks and heartbreak. This book has my enthusiastic endorsement. Get the book and share it. You'll never regret that decision.

Lisa opens up and becomes very vulnerable in sharing her own experiences. We can all find something we can identify with. Her experiences help each one in the study to also be open and vulnerable which is important for healing.
loreallepaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Loved it!April 4, 2017loreallepaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There is nothing I love more than feeling as if Im chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee while reading a book. And this book was just that, from cover to cover.
I think as women, weve all felt Uninvited at one point in our lives. God created women to crave deep personal relationships, so our friendships are a huge part of who we are. Chances are, right now youre either smiling because youre thinking about your own bestie or youre feeling sad because you wish you had a bestie. Either way, your heart connects with the idea of friendship.
I remember a time last year where it felt as if I watched friendship after friendship roll across my Facebook feed. Gals going on lunch dates, littles play dates, meeting for coffee, selfies together here and there. And here I was, sitting at home taking selfies with my chickens.
Lysa tackles the emotional issues of rejection and loneliness in Uninvited. Time after time I found myself saying Yes, oh my goodness, me too! She emphasizes that there is a reason for this season and its not to harm you. Goodness, I should maybe get that tattooed on my arm. Lysa discusses the damaging beliefs we so eagerly embrace and the hurtful ways we deal with those beliefs. She then offers us the truth and promises found in Gods Word.
Every person should read this book. It is such is a healing for the brokenhearted. Gods love for us is so real! When we are in times of need, when were lonely and when were Uninvited He wants us to run to Him. To crave Him. To find comfort in the love story He wrote for us.

Lysa makes you feel like she is sitting down and having a one-on-one with you alone. She is personable, knowledgeable and refreshing. This is SUCH a relevant teaching for the times we are living in! Our church announced this for a women's ministry study and we had several men approach and as that they have this study as well! I'm grateful for such an affective study!
