Becky has a way of writing as if you have been friends forever and she is sending you a word of encouragement. My favorite line in her book is that we just need hope (and maybe a long uninterrupted nap). She digs into the truth that God has a perfect plan for our role as mothers that includes love, hope, peace, grace, strength, and joy. Yet she laments with us that our dreams and our personalities may have gotten lost or stuck in the middle of the busyness and seasons of motherhood. She challenges us to overcome the overwhelm, doubt, and isolation, plus the lies of comparison, and search our hearts for who and what fills our souls.

If there's one thing I need more of in my life it's grace. In general, I tend to have abundant grace for other people and next to none for myself. This book was so well-timed for me. I loved how she wrote as if she were my friend, gently reminding me of God's truth. Throughout the reading, there were questions that I often used as journal prompts. Each chapter ends with three sections: Let's Talk, Let's Pray, and Let's Hope. The first really gets us thinking and asks questions. The prayer section is an actual prayer we can use. I tended to use it as a springboard into my own prayer on the topic. The last section is an affirmation of sorts, reminding us how we should think. Here's an example:

I am not a mess. I am a miracle. God sees value in me. God wants to help me, and I will let Him.

I can always use positive, Bible-based affirmations in my life. If you're anything like me, you tend to struggle with your thought life. Worry. Am I doing enough to be a good wife, mom, and friend? Am I failing at this mom thing? Why am I the only one who can't balance it all? The truth is...you're not alone. God is the one writing your life story. Sometimes we just need to hear that voice of encouragement.

For me, this book is a great help in this area. As it says on the back of her book, "She guides you to encounter the Truth of Gods presence that not only fuels you with strength but also a fresh confidence. And beyond gaining faith that tomorrow could be different, you find hope and purpose where you are standing today."

Couldn't we all use hope and purpose?

Motherhood is a battle no one tells you about when they hand you that precious little one with a wave and a smile. As a mother, I will be the first to admit, I was not prepared for the onslaught of trials I would face. When I was hiding in the closet, desperately hoping that someone would come and rescue me, yet continuing to find myself all alone. We all have the battle wounds and scars, but tend to forget that we do not have to fight this fight by ourselves. Thank goodness I found Becky Thompson's book, Hope Unfolding, when I did because this worn out mama was ready to throw in the towel. My heart was weary and I was just plain tired. But I found that as I read each page and realized I AM NOT ALONE, I would pump my fist and yell my battle cry, "Preach It, Sister! Hallelujah! Amen! Becky shows weary mamas everywhere, that even when it appears that the darkness is moving in, the Lord will be our hope. We tend to forget that He is there when we are in the midst of the daily battles we each face. But "Hope Unfolding" turns our minds and hearts away from the darkness and towards the light that our Father provides. He is there for you and me. He never forgets us. WE ARE NOT ALONE! Mama, you can lay those burdens at the Lord's feet and in exchange He will give you the courage, strength and confidence you need to walk onto the battlefield of motherhood every day. YOU ARE ENOUGH! Let the Lord give you the hope you desperately need.

I literally read this book in 2 days! I got an advanced reading copy and couldnt't put it down! There are no words to truly do this book justice for a review! I found myself within the pages of this book so many times! Becky's way of telling her own stories and showing the Father's love through each situation was so refreshing! Any time I begin to feel down, I find myself thinking of little snippets from this book to bring back hope and remember I always have Jesus there to help me through! I highly recommend this book to all mamas out there!!! you won't regret this purchase!!

In Hope Unfolding, Becky Thompsons allowed herself to be a vessel for our Heavenly Father to pour His love and grace out on womens hearts everywhere, in every season. It gives us a refreshing breath of hope and freedom from perfectionism. I laughed, I cried, and I felt the presence of Jesus as I read her words.

I can confidently say, I have never read a book that offers a feeling of actually visiting with the author. Becky writes to us from the vantage point of friendship and encouragement as only a true friend could. In this book, she beautifully portrays the secret brokenness we all feel as women and mothers, but never speak of. Yet gives a more beautiful reminder of what can happen if we allow the Love of Jesus to fill that brokenness. She tells us the too good to be true news, that we are enough, we are exactly where God wants us in this moment, we are not ruining our children, and His grace is sufficient not only for us, but our families as well. The most powerful truth that we are created in the image of God, that we are more than conquerors thought Christ Jesus, that we are loved and called children of the most High God, we would be unstoppable. We could do anything. If we didnt live feeling like failures, there would be no limit to what we believed God could do through us and through our mothering. Get a copy for you and your friends so you too can be filled with hope and grace!
