At 42, Etta thought she was finished having children, but she's pregnant again. After a frightening labor, Etta finally gives birth, but her constant worry over her estranged grown son, David, haunts her still. As a new mother again, Etta must hold tightly to the promise that God will watch over her children and that one day David will return.

My thoughts: 5 stars novella. I can't imagine having a grandchild and then finding out I was expecting a child, but that is what happen to Etta. This novella captures the faith and love of this couple. Etta, wonders at her age how she will manage with a new little one. How she will keep up. On top of a new baby she still longs for David, her youngest son who left the community, and the impending financial struggles.

An Unexpected Blessing: At 42 years old and mother of six children, Etta thought her childbearing years were behind herbut God had another plan! Wondering how she will have the energy for this little one, paired with the loss of their youngest son to the world, memories of the loss of a premature daughter and financial worries about their farm, Etta and Mose have their faith tested. Almost delivering in a buggy on the road during a snowstorm doesnt help, either! Again, this couple must lean on the Lord for all to work out for good.

I could relate to Ettas concerns about having a baby at 42. I had my first child at 41 and was right in there understanding and cheering her on. So many worries but God makes a way. The opening with the dramatic trip to the birthing center kept me on the edge of my seat and the sweet story that followed kept me hooked until the last word.

When I began reading this novella, I expected a short, simple romance, obviously involving Emma Hochstetter.

    Shame on me!

How on earth could I not expect Vannetta to shine even in a novella!

I love the relationship between Emma and her mother-in-law. Its truly a blessing for both ladies.

From there the story really takes off, with one surprise after another

If youre a follower, you know I dont write spoilers ( at least none that havent been revealed in the synopsis) so I cant say more, except to tell you if you get the chance, buy The Amish Garden and read the wonderful stories for yourself!
