Product Description

Commander Mark Bishop is deliberately low-key: "I'm in the Navy." But commanding the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada, keeping her crew trained and alert during ninety-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch weapons on valid presidential orders, carries a burden of command like few other jobs in the military. Mark Bishop is a man who accepts that responsibility, and handles it well. And at a time when tensions are escalating around the Pacific Rim, the Navy is glad to have him.

Mark wants someone to come home to after sea patrols. The woman he has in mind is young, with a lovely smile, and very smart. She's a civilian, yet she understands the U.S. Navy culture. And he has a strong sense that life with her would never be boring. But she may be too deep in her work to see the potential in a relationship with him.

Gina Gray would love to be married. She has always envisioned her life that way. A breakup she didn't see coming, though, has her focusing all her attention on what she does best--ocean science research. She's on the cusp of a major breakthrough, and she needs Mark Bishop's perspective and help. Because what she told the Navy she's figured out is only the beginning. If she's right, submarine warfare is about to enter a new and dangerous chapter.

Dee Henderson combines military suspense and a love triangle in Undetected leaving the reader eager to turn the next page! After a bad breakup, Gina Gray finds solace in her work as an ocean scientist at her brother's Naval base. Her intellectual genius has led to her discovery of new technology that would make the waters safer for U.S. military personnel. However, her intent isn't just to share this new technology- she's also hoping to find a love that will last a lifetime. What she didn't anticipate was that not one, but two men become interested in pursuing her.

I enjoyed the plot line following Gina's astounding discoveries and the attention given to the Navy and its role in protecting our country (I'm a total nerd in that way). Although I presume the "secret technologies" incorporated into the story are fictional, the military theme was intriguing. But my favorite part of the novel was the love triangle. Henderson had an interesting and unique approach to the love story involved. Gina has almost lost hope that she will find a mate because in the past her superior intelligence has proven to be a threat to the men she has dated resulting in the relationships dissovling. After arriving on her brother's Naval base, her brother, Jeff, tries to match Gina with his best friend, Mark Bishop, commander of a ballistic submarine. Mark, however, resists the pairing because of his and Gina's age difference. Of course, after Gina begins casually dating another man on base, Daniel Field, Mark realizes he does have feelings for Gina. I liked that the "challenge" between the two men is civil. Mark's pursuit of Gina is especially sweet. As he falls in love with her, the vulnerability and tenderness he displays toward Gina while courting her leaves the reader rooting for him and hoping that he will be Gina's choice in the end. Loved the unexpected and unconventional approach to romance Henderson offers in this book!

As always, Ms. Henderson delivers a wonderful story line with attention to detail. First and foremost, as a Christian, I deeply appreciate the Christian faith and standards that are portrayed in the lives of her characters. I'm often challenged spiritually to live up to those standards. I like the fact she obviously spends many hours researching her characters' professions so the reader can better understand and "get to know them" . The same goes for the geographical areas involved in the story; the details allow me to envision and to "feel" like I'm right there. I have read all her books and have ordered her next book due to be shipped in April.

I picked this book up at the library with high hopes. I haven't read a book by this author in years, and was looking forward to it. I was very disappointed in the overall story. There was too much technical information about submarines and science, the plot with Gina having to decide between 2 men (both of whom seemed perfect with no flaws) was annoying, and the fact that the man she did marry called her "precious" was creepy. I'm not sure I'll read another book by this author, and if I do, I will reread one of the author's older books that I enjoyed.

I have been a fan of Dee Henderson's for many years. She has a style all her own and I have never been disappointed with her books. This is no exception. The characters are great, both main characters are humble and it is a reminder that we only see small details compared to what really goes on every day within our military.

Of course it is a romance novel and she doesn't disappoint there either. I like the twist of seeing characters from previous books and how their story is going, because as we all know, real life doesn't end at happily ever after.
