Product Description

Confused by the varying religious viewpoints in your workplace, neighborhood, even your family? Understanding World Religions - contrasting 50 world faiths with Christianity - can help. Christians believe Jesus' claim that he is "the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6), though dozens of other religions propose varying pathways to God, heaven, or personal fulfillment.

Describing alternate viewpoints fairly and non-judgmentally, Understanding World Religions features major world faiths (Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism), Christian-based religions (Mormonism, Unification Church, Christian Science), traditional religions (African, Chinese, Native American), and various hard-to-categorize beliefs (Gnosticism, Hare Krishna, New Age Spirituality, Wicca). This fully-illustrated guide is a fascinating and useful tool to help you understand others' beliefs.

Editorial Reviews

...if you are looking for a book on world religions from a distinctly Christian perspective, get this one. Seriously. It is quite good. From content to presentation, this book is A+.

The format is beautiful and makes you want to read it. The colors and patterns are engaging but not distracting from the text. This would make a wonderful textbook for a basic world religions course taught from a distinctly Christian perspective. Beyond that, it makes a great reference text to keep around and it is immensely readable, to the point where someone could sit down and read large sections straight through.

Each of the fifty faiths are examined fully and you get to leave reading this with a much better understanding of not only the history of each of them but also the basic tenets of each too. I found this book to be very interesting and left with a much greater understanding of these faiths. I was impressed with how vast this was too as their were faiths that I had never heard of held within the book!

“Understanding World Religions” is a well written, thoroughly researched book. Written from a Christian perspective, the book explains and contrast over 50 different world religions. The authors describe each faith fairly and without judgement. The book not only covers major faiths such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and hinduism but also goes into subsets of christianity like Mormonism. One of the nice things about this book is it does not stop with the big guys but goes into religious movements such as gnosticism, Wicca, and New Age Spirituality. The book is fully and beautiful illustrated.
