This is a new effort to analyze and harmonize all the scriptures dealing with various aspects of the afterlife. After many years of prayerful study and consultation the author presents a unified picture of what has happened, is happening, and will happen at physical death. He also discusses the second coming and the resurrection, bringing eschatology into the realm of common understanding.
In this book the author strives to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the following:
1) the story of Lazarus and the rich Man is a parable,
2) the story of the sheep and the goats is a parable and those who are separated are only those who are alive at the second coming.
3) the Greek word Hades has two meanings. In the gospels it is equal to Hell, in the rest of the New Testament it refers to sheol, the place of the dead before the resurrection of Christ.
4) when Christ was in Hades, Acts 2:31, he was preaching to the dead, 1 Peter 3:19, 4:6, John 5:25. This visit was not giving them a second chance, it was their first and only chance to hear the Gospel of Christ.
The author also offers clarifying information on the meaning of Paradise and Tartarus and who are the dead mentioned in Revelation 20:12 as well as how Hades can be thrown into Hell in Revelation 20:14. With the possible exception of some of the details about the Greek language, all this material is easily understood and is very comforting as we all realize the temporary nature of this life.
