This book was everything I expected and more. I consider myself as one of Lecrae's biggest fans (if not the biggest), so I know pretty much everything about him, yet this book really delves deep. Nothing is hidden, and the honesty just makes you appreciate the man behind the music and how far God has brought him.
Lacrea's music is great, but it was his story that touched me deeply. His honesty made me wince, cringe and cry. He fully shares his story, every ugly and beautiful detail. This book will help you understand how important even the ugly parts of your story are. Most importantly, he tells us repentence is a life long act. As he said in his book, when a baby falls, we comfort him, then cheer him on as he tries again. What a perfect analogy of the life every Christian needs to have for themselves and other believers. You will be touched, challenged and have your eyes opened to truths in a fresh and profound way.
I first saw Lecrae in concert at the Maybee Center in Tulsa in 2012. I'd never heard of him before; and I love contemporary Christian music. The strong message in his songs, the music, and his gifted way to proclaim the message of Christ through hip hop style music - well the crowd was filled to overflowing from the blessings of his ministry and his ministry gift. I soon bought his cd's and I've really never been the same since. He's a part of the body of Christ that has so blessed and touched me. It showed me God can bring something good out of a bad thing - I'd always considered all hip-hop music as bad or evil. I bought and listed to almost of all Lecrae's music cd's. He quickly became my favorite Christian artist and still is.
So I was very excited about purchasing and reading his book. I bought it and read it in 7 days (that's fast for me). I did not realize that many of his songs were birthed out of true, real life experiences he's had. I should have known that.
Anyway, I loved the book. It is, like his songs, very articulate, easy to read, his writing like his lyrics has a rhythm to it! I strongly recommend the book for anyone who likes Christian music. It is a book where Lecrae is very open about his past mistakes even as a Christian. And it goes on to say how he learned from his mistakes, and has learned to hear from God, and fear and follow God in the decisions he makes. I will read it a second time soon. I strongly recommend giving this as a gift to those you're trying to influence to Christ too!
Thanks Lecrae for being transparent with the Body of Christ. Thanks for obeying your heavenly Father. I pray that God will continue to use Lecrae to bring the light of Jesus Christ to the dark places in this world.
