Betti5 Stars Out Of 5Keep your eyes open and make note of every detail!October 11, 2020BettiQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Did this mean the alarm Keith raised was credible?
The author has once again written a book that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I managed to shorten a few nails in that time as well. Book 1 in the Pelican Harbor series laid some of the groundwork for this story, but one can certainly enjoy this one without that history. After all, non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat regardless.
Police Chief Jane Hardy is a master at solving crime - but will this one be too much for her? Blackmail, threats, kidnapping and murder are just a few of the incidents she must deal with all the while trying to find the perpetrator(s). Will those closest and most important to her escape unscathed?
This ARC was received through Thomas Nelson, HarperCollins Christian Publishing and NetGalley. The comments and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited. -
bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Continued emphasis on relationship developmentSeptember 25, 2020bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3This is the second book in a series. While it reads relatively well on its own, the first in the series should be read first to enjoy the full impact of this one.
There is a mystery involved in the plot in the form of an attack on an ocean drilling platform. Jane and Reid, their back story revealed in the first book in the series, work together to find out who wants to damage the deep water facility. Another aspect of the plot is an attempt to harm their son with the goal of getting them to stop their investigation.
Like the first novel in this series, the largest part of the plot deals with the relationship between Jane and Reid. They deal with past issues as romance is rekindled. Also a large part of the novel deals with both Jane and Reid as they continue to try to unravel the truth of their family's involvement in a cult.
There is much suspense in the latter part of the novel. I thought the plot to destroy the drilling platform was a little overkill for what the nefarious person wanted to accomplish. I also thought the continued pursuit of family history in the midst of a potentially devastating event was a little odd. I did appreciate the continued development of Jane's spirituality. We are definitely left hanging with respect to relationships so will be waiting for the next in the series.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review. -
arkmom4 Stars Out Of 5Action, suspense and mysterySeptember 9, 2020arkmomQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4While this is book 2 in the Pelican Harbor series, you can read and enjoy it if you haven't read the first one. But, I highly recommend reading the first one as there are references to it in the second one.
I was thrilled to be able to continue the story of Police Chief Jane, Reed (her ex), and their fifteen year old son, Will, whom she had believed to be dead until recently. Can she ever forgive Reed for keeping her son from her? What about her dad and the horrific part he played in the lie? Can she find it in her heart to forgive him? Can she trust again?
Keith, who works on the oil platform, first is missing, then, found dead. In a very bad way that tells Jane is was murder. As the story unfolds, it is discovered that Keith believed there was a terrorist attack planned on the oil rig. As the investigation goes on, death threats are made against Will. This only fuels the fire inside Jane to get to the bottom of this, while taking great measures to protect her son.
I enjoyed this suspenseful story, and it kept me guessing until the end. The ending does leave the story hanging as there is Book 3 coming.
I received an advanced copy from the publisher, Thomas Nelson Publishing and NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
