We are dependent upon the Lord for everything from the air we breathe to the prosperity of our nation. However, in the midst of the hectic workdays and brief weekends that comprise our lives, we often forget to return to the presence of our good and gracious Lord through prayer. In Turn, Max Lucado and seasoned author Brian Smith challenge us to turn from the sinful illusion of independence so that we return to a prayer-filled, daily dependence upon God. After we turn towards God, we'll experience personal spiritual renewal and begin to see our nation return to her godly foundations.

From the Hardcover edition.
Turn by Max Lucado offers an interesting perspective on how we view ourselves as a nation. He makes the point that we are a strong, powerful nation that takes great pride in our self-sufficiency--but should we? Do we as a country need to change direction? Lucado believes we need to turn back to our nationís foundations, and uses 2 Chronicles 7:14 to map out the way.
Following this scripture, we are encouraged to turn to Godís glory, to God in prayer, to Godís Word, and to God in repentance. In four powerful chapters full of scripture, insight and wisdom are applied to show us how to make that turn back to our foundations. Max Lucado continues to be direct, powerful in word, and easy to grasp in this book.
A great analogy of a spider and her web is used in the first chapter to show how quickly we deem unnecessary the very foundation that supports us all, and the arrogance of self-sufficiency. By breaking down 2 Chronicles 7:14 into four components we are shown why we should turn back to God, and the steps it takes to change direction.
This book was not what I expected. I thought Turn would speak to me about how to turn back to my personal foundations. Instead, it spoke to me as part of a corporate body, and gave blueprints of how to stand in the gap for this country. If you feel that the task of turning our country back to its foundations is just too overwhelming, read this book. I felt empowered and guided to do just that. Turn is an excellent read! -- Sheri Carlstrom, Christian Book Previews.com
