Publisher's Description

Exciting Start of a Brand-New Series by a Contemporary Romance Fan Favorite

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he's diagnosed with an inherited condition, he's forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John's already dating someone and Nora's not sure she's ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they're seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.

Oh merciful heavens, I'm in such a tizzy over this one! In fact -- and this is totally a FIRST for me -- I actually read this book twice -- back to back. Literally reached the end and flipped it back open to the first chapter and started all over again. It tickled my fancy that much.

Why you ask? I think because I totally connected with Nora. Maybe more than that -- she's kind of my clone in some ways. In fact I think the author has created the most relatable heroine in romantic comedy history. A bit nerdy, she spends her nights fangirling over a fictional character in a British drama. I was so convinced that Adolphus Brook and Northamptonshire were actually real that I spent quite a while googling both to see what all the fuss was about. :-) In short, Nora is just like us, ladies! Enjoying romance vicariously through the heroines in stories.

And the whole thing starts off so snappy and funny and easy to read with plenty of laugh out loud moments. In fact the first time Nora meets John is sweet (and toe-curling) perfection. In fact she is so impressed with him that she uses her Ninja librarian skills to research him and then starts majorly crushing on him.

For his part, John is oblivious. Nora is a means to an end and if he feels some unusual zings in the air when she's around, well, he's not going acknowledge it...much. He just finds her quirky and a little intense...and when there's a clash of opinions -- well, "redheaded librarians who use big words didn't scare him." (p.33) Ha! Dream on, oh clueless hero. There is such great dialogue and almost-dialogue between these two. Especially with Nora. John will ask her a question or make a comment and we are privy to her outrageous love-lorn inner comebacks before she manages to vocalize something benignly appropriate. Honestly, those bits just stuffed me full of giddy.

So there I am happily giggling my way through these pages when suddenly...shut the front door...what just happened? The author did not...she wouldn't...oh my goodness gracious, she did! Ms. Wade you have some explaining to do!!!!! And suddenly the romantic comedy has turned into something deep and desperate and achingly heart-wrenching and all I could do was silently (well, except for screaming insults at the author) watch helplessly on the sidelines.

Seriously. My heart hurts. But it's grown some too because I've learned some important lessons right along with John and Nora. Like: "...the past might be challenging and the future might be unsure. And that's okay. The present is all we're given anyway. When we get to the future, God will be there." (p 275)

And did I mention that this is only the first of the Bradford Sisters Romance series? The author has done an excellent job of setting up the future books which will feature Britt and Willow. I think I might just have to read True to You a couple of more times in anticipation.

I feel like anything I say won't be adequate enough to express the sheer greatness that is 'True to You'. It was wonderful, funny, romantic, emotional... everything that is good!

From the very first chapter I knew I was gonna like Nora. She's infinitely relatable and one of the most likeable heroines I've ever read. Her bookish nature, love of PBS historical dramas, her quirky sense of humor and vocabulary. She was so much fun to read about. And John... sigh... John is the definition of swoon-worthy. He's such a multifaceted guy. He's brooding, strong, and a man of great character, who is bravely trying to cope with his recent, tough diagnosis. Nora and John are complete opposites, but their opposites totally compliment one another.

The relationship between Nora and her sisters Willow and Britt was very sweet and genuine. It was nice to read about siblings who were so supportive of each other. Though not featured much and despite her negativity and gruff attitude, Grandma was one of my favorites. I hope she has a bigger role in subsequent books.

The genealogy aspect of this book was fascinating, the searching for clues and those clues leading to more clues. It was like searching for missing pieces in a puzzle and so interesting to read about.

I was expecting this book to be a funny and lighthearted romance and it was (I laughed out loud too many times to count), but then it took a turn for the more serious with a shocking twist that literally stole my breath. It added a completely new layer of depth to the whole story.

I did not want 'True to You' to end! It was a fantastic story that I'm so glad I read! I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this series! Highly recommend!

By the time A Bradford Sisters Romance series is finished, it just may be the best series Wade has written. True to You is fabulous! Packed with surprises, the emotional elements in this story stirred my heart and soul and held me spellbound with their rawness and intensity. Nora and John traveled a road of discovery that left me as wide-eyed as a deer caught in the headlights. I am hooked on this series and cannot wait for the next book.

If you are a fan of contemporary fiction brimming with an intricate plot twist and solid characterizations, then you will devour True to You.

Be sure and read Then Came You, the FREE e-novella, first so you get the background on the sisters. It is a fantastic beginning written in journal entry form.

I received a copy from the publisher with no expectation of a review. No compensation has been received.

Nora Bradford appears to be a plain girl who hides herself away in her over-sized, frumpy clothes and her work. But all in not as it seems. Nora once thought her other two sisters were the pretty ones, and that Nora was destined to be the unattractive one. Then she met former Navy SEAL John Lawson and everything changed.

John contacts Nora to help him find his birth mother, and while working together she becomes so smitten with him that she allows her sister to redo her imageclothes, hair, makeupthe works! Nora is an ugly duckling no longer, and enjoys the confidence her new look brings to her. However, she holds back emotionally with John because he has a girlfriend. Nora doesnt want to be someone who breaks up a relationship. She also wonders why John wanted to find out about his biological mother because he remains so mysterious about the true reason for doing a search.

This story is told against the background of Nora being brought up in a family of unlimited privilege while John has made a huge amount of money himself. Nora works in a historical village that she owns and created, since it was a gift from her parents. I really enjoyed the characters in this story, especially the grandmother who finds so many things wrong that it is humorous. British actor Duncan Bartholomews sudden appearance also adds some humor along with a little jealousy to this tale. Noras story about what happened to her birth mother is shocking, and even more so, the unexpected connection with John that comes from that. There are lots of twists and turns in this tale that keeps the book very interesting.

This story is told from a Christian viewpoint and it is clean and non-offensive. The main character, Nora, has a strong moral viewpoint about not coming between a dating coupledespite how hard it is because she has developed such deep feelings for John. I really appreciated that standing up for moral character is included in this story-line.

True to You is part of The Bradford Sisters Romance Series, but this tale stands on its own so no other books need to be read to understand this one. This five-star book will appeal to a wide variety of interests from adoptive children looking for their birth parents, to those who enjoy romances, or anyone who has interest in doing a genealogical search, as well as, all those who enjoy well-written stories.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Bethany House Publishing for the purpose of review. I have not been compensated in any other manner. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal.

It's always such a delight to dive into a new series by a favorite author. True To You is Becky Wade's latest series that features three sisters. This first book gives us Nora Bradford as our heroine and John Lawson as our hero. The two couldn't be more different. Nora is bookish and loves all things history. John is a here and now type. He is a decorated Navy SEAL and uses that background to further his thriving business.

As with all of Becky's novels, True To You, is at times funny and at others sentimentally touching. Both John and Nora have emotional wounds in their past that cause them to put up walls around their hearts. When the truth would set them free they choose to hide it. It's a common struggle among each of us that makes this book appealing.

During the course of the story we meet the other two sisters and the significant men in their lives. (A great preview of the stories to come.) We don't actually meet the parents because they are off on a mission trip but we do get a nice glimpse of the girls' grandmother. She's so cranky it's downright funny.

There are many scenes in the book that I love but if I had to pick just one it would be a conversation between John and his birth mother. I loved her insight into the circumstances of his adoption and his life that followed. The dialogue was beautifully written and will definitely strike a chord with readers.

I believe that True To You would make a lovely summer read for your book club. It's a light read without being shallow. To help the discussion along Becky and her publisher have included Questions for Conversation in the back. Even if you're not part of a book group you should snatch this one up as a treat for yourself!

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
