This book is not about discipline, nor problem children. The emphasis is on the training of a child before the need to discipline arises. It is apparent that, though they expect obedience, most parents never attempt to train their child to obey. They wait until the behavior becomes unbearable and then explode. With proper training, discipline can be reduced to 5% of what many now practice. As you come to understand the difference between training and discipline, you will have a renewed vision for your family, no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home and total obedience from your children.
Introducing Michael and Debi Pearl
Michael and Debi Pearl have been married since 1971. They have 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Between them they have authored 14 books and 8 booklets which combined have sold millions. Much of what they write deals with marriage, child training, and homeschooling.
One of their recent books, Good and Evil (Bible stories in Marvel comic format), has been published into 25 languages with another 60 translations soon to be ready for press. The Pearls also publish a 32 page bi-monthly magazine with a subscription of over 100,000. Needless to say they are prolific writers and public speakers.
On another note, Michael is an inductee into the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame and holds several world titles, including Gold Cup winner of 2008-9, long distance thrower of the year with a record all time high of hitting a four inch target at 63 feet, and he is the undisputed best tomahawk thrower of 2009, holding the world title.
When he is not teaching the Bible or speaking to audiences on how to have a good marriage and obedient children he is teaching kids how to stick a bulls eye with a knife or hawk.
Debi Pearl and husband Michael have 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Between them they have author 14 books and 8 booklets which combined have sold millions. Learn more about them and sign up for the No Greater Joy bi-monthly magazine at NoGreaterJoy.org.
Debi Pearl grew up during the 1960s at the height of the hippie revolution and the Jesus Movement. The forced draft due to the Vietnam War brought a sense of eternity to the youth, provoking them to seriously consider their souls. It was a time of a great move of the Spirit of God. As a teenager, dressed in tie-dye tee shirt and long drooping peasant skirt, she stood on the highways and byways sharing the gospel and seeing miracle after miracle of Gods amazing grace. She married her life mate, Michael Pearl, in 1971.

irwinAge: 35-44Gender: male1 Stars Out Of 5This is an awful, awful, book!February 14, 2011irwinAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This book should be entitled "How to lure your children into their next beating!". Anyone who would suggest tempting your child so that you can "train" or better put "beat" their tendencies out of them is quite simply--SICK! To use scripture to justify such a betrayal of trust and support such a cowardice action is an abomination. The word of God says what it says and I do not oppose spanking or warranted correction but nowhere is there instruction in the Bible to trick our children into a situation for reprimanding. I am disgusted with this book. I would burn it aside from my fear that it probably contains toxic ink to go along with its toxic teachings! READER BEWARE!!!!

We lost the true understanding of discipline, and became so weak minded and selfish that we've produced spoiled, winning, uncontrolled "adults." "Guiding" a child isn't enough; and you don't guild a child, you guild an adult.
"The rod is to guide, not hit" is strictly unbiblical.
If your a christain the bible clearly instructs us to use the rod, " Withhold not correction from the child; for if thou BEATEST him with the ROD, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the ROD, and shalt deliver his soul from hell (Prov 23:13-14)." "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chastenth him betimes (Prov. 13.24)." "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child let to himself bringeth his mother to shame(Prov. 29:15)." "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child: but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him (Prov 22:15)." How can you misinterpet that?
It's mind boggling how children act these days.. so unruly, so disrespectful to parents. We need to go back to the old time discipline, (biblical) and STOP listening to people with "degrees." Obviously, how they "think" our child should be raised isn't working too well. People need to have more children, then they'll understand. Our children is our future.
I am from a family of 9 children. I have 4 children 6years old and under. We read and applied "To Train up a Child" and it worked marvelously. People always commit on how well our children behave! They are HAPPY and so fun to be around, and we are planning to have more!
I will be ordering multi copies because people are always asking where they can get a copy. It's a short, easy read and straight to the point. This book helps you to understand and apply what the bible teaches. If you want to produce responsible, respectful, obedient, happy, loving children this book is defiently a must!!!
MW04Age: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5If I could give it ZEROs I would!October 22, 2010MW04Age: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This book should be called "To Abuse a Child". This is not grounded in proper exgesis of scripture. The rod is to GUIDE, NOT HIT! Michael and Debi Pearl are spiritual QUACKS!
I feel for the Schatz girls who were subject to this garbage! Dr. William Sears, who is a Christian and medical doctor, knows his stuff when it comes to advising parents on discipline, and I would recommend any of his books to any parent, any day!!!
