"Here in one volume is a collection of Tozer's thoughts on the vitally important subject of worship---and its corruption by what he referred to as 'the great god of Entertainment.'I have culled from my extensive library of some 500 tape-recordings of Tozer preaching to his Chicago congregation, camp meetings, conventions, his denomination's General Council and his last years at the Avenue Road Church in Toronto," from the Preface. Also includes Tozer's essay "The Menace of the Religious Movie."

Publisher's Description

"We are saved to worship God. All that Christ has done for us in the past and all that He is diong now leads to this one end." — A. W. Tozer

Tozer had strong convictions about the subject of worship, as well as its corruption by what he called "the great god Entertainment." The excerpts in this book were carefully selected to give you a clear picture of his thoughts on both topics:

  • Worship: Unacceptable Worship, Spiritual Concentration, The Presence of God, the Power of God, Personal Communion, Adoration, Hymns
  • Entertainment: Evangelical Heresy, Propoganda, An Outward Shift, Modern Evangelism, Religious Activity, Worldliness

Also included are Tozer's sermon "The Act and Object of Worship" in its entiretiy and his controversial essay "The Menace of the Religious Movie," written in the mid-1950s. You might not agree with all that Tozer says, but, as always, he draws a line in the sand and causes us to think critically about what is and isn't worship, and if what we are doing is truly worship.

Bro. Tozer may step on a few toes, but he surely doesn't water-down the message. If you can take it, read it. If you can't take it, you'd better be sure to read it. It

Tozer is always excellent. He forsaw what we have today in the modern "church", just a social club as in Laodicia. Fun and games, 7-11 verses, pomposity from the pulpits. He accuratly describes it all.

This book was a really good read. There are so many people who look to be entertained when going to church instead of looking forward to learning about our Lord Jesus Christ. The book was very interesting and I am sure one of few that stresses the importance of spirit-led and spirit-filled worship.

Still relevant inspiration from a departed saint. I wish every evangelical pastor would read and take heed!
