How a doctor's glimpses of eternity confirmed everything he believed about God, suffering, life on earth, and what happens after death.
Dr. Chauncey Crandall knows his patients well. When they are dying, he sits at the bedside with them and holds their hands. He prays with them. Sometimes he can feel what they feel and see what they see. At other times his patients have near-death experiences and "come back" with astonishing descriptions of the afterlife. In TOUCHING HEAVEN, Dr. Crandall reveals how what he has seen and heard has convinced him that God is real, that we are created for a divine purpose, that death is not the end, that we will see our departed loved ones again, and that we are closer to the next world than we think.
DR. CHAUNCEY W. CRANDALL IV is chief of the Cardiovascular Transplant Program at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens and on staff at three medical centers. He has lectured nationally on topics including heart transplantation, preventive cardiology, healing, and cardiology health care of the elderly. Dr. Crandall writes a monthly newsletter which is published by Newsmax and is the author of two books, Raising the Dead and the Simple Heart Cure. He speaks regularly to professional groups and with the speaking team of international evangelist Reinhard Bonnke.

Dr. Crandall's theology and experience cannot be disputed, and I greatly appreciate his opening his heart in such a manner! As soon as I started to read, I felt compelled to give my book away to my own personal doctor, who says in regards to his spirituality, "I'm a nothing". He meant he's an atheist.
I was expecting more of his patient experiences, but he wrote as the Holy Spirit directed him, and the rest is history. What he gave are very compelling and not surprising. Many years ago, I read Dr. Elizabeth Kluber-Ross's book, "On Death And Dying", which gave many more testimonials from people of all faiths and backgrounds. Her book showed that there was a distinct difference between the experiences of those of Christian backgrounds and those who were not.
I will be totally honest and say I was taken aback when he started to mention heretics as his mentors. My pastor, myself, and a number of us were at a Francis Hunter seminar one weekend, and we left before it was over. The Holy Spirit prompted us all at the same time, when she and her husband Charles began to teach people how to speak in tongues. We'd seen enough, and we were Pentecostals! On the Day of Pentecost, nobody had to be taught! He refers to Kenneth Hagin also, and that was a bit disturbing, as his theology left much to be desired.
Having said that, Dr. Crandall doesn't appear to have been tarnished by this heretical teaching, and I would gladly recommend the book. To have the privilege to walk with him through his son's illness and ultimate homegoing is invaluable and enlightening. God doesn't always heal our temporal bodies, and to have a healthy soul is more to be desired, and Chauncey made this abundantly clear.
This book is full of encouragement, love, wisdom, and instruction, and I greatly appreciate it. He is brutally honest about his feelings and those of his family during such a difficult time in their lives, and that is a key ingredient that connects with the reader. He has a wonderful writing style that just keeps you waiting for more! Something that I greatly appreciate about his book is that he desires all his readers to have that glorious and wondrous relationship with Jesus Christ, and Dr. Crandall shows the way at the end of the book! HIs book is sprinkled with supporting Scriptures throughout, and one cannot go wrong with those! He's a great blessing, and I wish we had a billion more brothers and sisters who are so up front with their faith and willingness to minister to both the body and the soul!

Scripture says, "People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27-28). The ungodly, the rebellious "will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Matthew 25:46 NASB).
"There are no ordinary people," C.S. Lewis reminded us; everyone we see, meet or know is an immortal being, destined to live our eternity in Satan's realm or God's." I've heard Reinhard Bonnke say, "The border to eternity runs parallel to this life and is just one step away. It may be crossed over any time by anybody." The question is" What are we going to do with that? We have a choice to make.
"Depending on which side of eternity's question you take, death is either dreadful or desirable; the greatest loss or the consummate gain. Charles Spurgeon preached, "Death to the wicked is the King of terrors. Death to the saint is the end of terrors, the commencement of glory." No one can anticipate advantage, benefit, profit in death - except for the Christian. If we don't live for Christ, dying means hell."(pg 110).
In his latest book, Touching Heaven: A Cardiologist's Encounters with Death and Living Proof of an Afterlife, Dr. Chauncey Crandall shares his many years of witnessing healing, loss of life including his own teenage son, and resurrections of many of his patients that he now prays for all of his patients as part of his practice and God has come through and shown him so much, he can no longer deny that God is real, and heaven is an eternal realm that goes beyond our senses. He has observed that when people are dying, they either register frightful reactions, including shock, torment or despair...or they reveal peaceful reactions such as calm and restfulness. There is almost never a middle ground - it is one extreme or the other, regardless of their symptoms or medication. He shares some of these first hand accounts that help him confirm that heaven does exist for those who believe in Jesus and hell awaits those who don't.
I received Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall compliments of Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the book, in exchange for my fair and unbiased personal opinion. What I love are the stories of what he experienced as well as those of his patients, all coupled around what the Bible says about heaven, God and what believers can experience in their faith through Christ. There are scriptures referenced throughout to back up the claims of what he or his patients observed as well as Bible verses to conclude each chapter. I have no doubt that what he has seen and witness is true and look forward to the day when I too, step into my eternal life in heaven one day. This is a true testimony of the power of faith and what a life with Jesus awaits those who breathe our life. It also gives hope to those dealing with their own grief and loss until we are reunited one day in our eternal home. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
Ray from FL5 Stars Out Of 5INTEGRATING CAREER WITH THE KINGDOM OF HEAVENJuly 1, 2016Ray from FLQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an account of this cardiologist's journey from being a nominal Christian who grew up in a nominal Christian church to becoming an obedient, fully committed disciple of Christ. God used his experiences as a practicing physician, husband, and father to become a person who understands that all the details of his life are to reflect God's word to him and God's action in him. He also urges us to more fully appreciate that the Kingdom of God is a powerful ally for committed Christians in dealing with the challenges and opportunities that life brings. The book is written with clarity and conciseness and clearly anchored to the Word of God
The~Wiser~Way5 Stars Out Of 5Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall is a very unique and thought provoking book.October 29, 2015The~Wiser~WayQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall piqued my interest for many reasons. At the top of my list is that the author is a cardiologist. Dr. Crandalls experience and background in medicine is impressive. The book states that, He is chief of the cardiovascular transplant program at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Palm Beach Gardens and is on staff at three medical centers. Having worked for fifteen years as an RN, CCRN in a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit myself, I am always drawn to the medical story, especially acute cardiac related events. There are many detailed stories within the book that chronicle the resuscitation procedures given to a dying patient. I was quickly immersed in the bedside care and high level of energy that fuels these life retrieving protocols. One particular narrative Dr. Crandall shares, where by the defibrillator did not fire when discharged, had me on the edge of my seat. That is a nightmare scenario for a code blue team!
A close second on my list for reading this book is the idea that Touching Heaven intersects faith with facts. The collision of spiritual and physical will always make for an interesting read. I am a very logical, formulaic, algorithm sort of gal, so when I have an opportunity to be stretched outside of my comfort zone to a place that is intangible, I will never turn that opportunity down.
Finally, I was drawn to this book simply because the author is courageously discussing heaven within the context of his personal experiences and observations. Given todays culture, I feel this is a brave thing to do. I have much admiration for anyone who will take a stand on their convictions with such passion and unwavering resolve. I wanted to digest an evangelical physicians perspective on healing, heaven, and our earthly purpose. I was not disappointed.
Touching Heaven is a very personal story of life events in the authors life. Dr. Crandalls desire to share the importance of inviting Christ into every situation could not be missed. He effectively communicates the message that we do not need to wait to go to heaven, but rather the kingdom of God is wherever believers call upon the name of Christ. One of the most powerful statements in the book encompasses this idea. Dr. Crandall writes, As we take up our spiritual authority, the situation were in switches from defeat and darkness and death to victory and light and life. This is the invisible but very real power of the kingdom of heaven.
Dr. Crandall boldly interprets a large volume of scripture references throughout this book. His Biblical knowledge and application of Gods word within the pages of this work are inspiring. The unfathomable premature death of his son in the peak of his life, make the authors testimony personal, credible, and urgent. Crandalls transparency and willingness to share the painful grief, questions, and finally the assurance he found in Christ, provide enough content for an entire book all on its own!
I read through the pages of Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall with an open mind, as well as a sensitive heart. I greatly appreciated all of the faith filled stories of healing that the author conveyed have taken place in a direct response to Jesus being invited into your situation. This is a beautiful and intriguing work. Crandalls writing has the potential to challenge boundaries and tear down walls of hopelessness.
Thank you to Faith Words Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, Inc for requesting my review and supplying me with a copy of Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall. I was not required to write a favorable assessment, but only to completely read this book and give my honest opinion.
stgibson19Age: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Fantastic new book on HeavenSeptember 10, 2015stgibson19Age: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5After reading and reviewing several books about experiences with Heaven, I was very happy to do a review for Hachette Book Groups newest book, Touching Heaven.
Written by Dr. Chauncey Crandall (with Kris Bearss) this book is an account of how Dr. Crandalls experiences with his job as a doctor, and his life as a parent led him to confirm the existence of God. Due to his young son developing leukemia, Dr. Crandall spent years trying to learn everything he could on healing. What he discovered was overwhelming evidence of the existence of God.
By sitting with his patients while they were dying, hearing stories of near-death experiences, seeing miracles of healing, and learning that science cant explain away everything, Dr. Crandall becomes a doctor who learns to treat his patients with the best of medicine and the best of heaven.
whether you step into eternal life or eternal death depends on what you decide about Christ: If you choose Him as your Lord and Deliverer, you will spend forever with Him in heaven. If you refuse Him, you will forever languish in hell and be separated from Him. pg. 111
This book is very different from the books on Heaven that have recently been flooding the market. Dr. Crandalls experiences are as an eye-witness, instead of someone who has seen the physical Heaven himself. As an earthy observer, he gives example after example of how these experiences forever changed his view of God, and everyone around him.
I loved this book. I was captured from page one and had trouble putting it down. I love how this is not just a book on Heaven, but a book that applies to our every day life, how we see ourselves, and how we can make a difference with our own tribe of people who God places along our path. I highly recommend this one.
