Until Angelina came into Samantha's life, it had been a myriad of pain, abuse, and lies. Sam allows herself to dream of a home with Angelina, when the little girl is taken away, taking Sam's hopes and dreams as well.
She prays she'll find Angelina. But doubts God even hears her. How could he with her so dirty? And how could she trust a God who she believes abandoned her? Hopefully this God wouldn't abandon Angelina.
God uses the gentle hands of another carpenter to show Samantha she was never alone. He strips back the layers of abuse that have tarnished her faith and worth to teach Sam there is mercy instead of shame, and love instead of hurt. He shows her that though it seems out of reach, she always had freedom in Christ.
