CozyWriter'sDen4 Stars Out Of 5A great little collectionAugust 28, 2018CozyWriter'sDenQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5There wasn't a story in this collection that I didn't enjoy. Each one was a confident, stand-alone novella that any reader could pick up and enjoy without having the backstory of these author's other series. Two of the novellas were set in worlds that the authors have created for other series, but it wasn't necessary to know about them to enjoy these short-stories.
I became surprisingly invested in all three of these novellas, despite the fact that they were short stories. Typically I find short stories rushed, but these were complete and very satisfying reads. This book is the perfect collection to drop in your purse to read during a lunch break or while waiting for someone - they are short (I read each story in about 30 minutes) and thoroughly enjoyable.
I found the cover quite under-whelming and it did not inspire me to pick this book up right away. That being said, I really enjoy all three of these authors and this collection is a little gem. I'd definitely recommend it.

Worth the Wait takes us for a visit to Harper's Station, a women's only colony in the West. Tori, a shop owner and single mother has reason to distrust men. Benjamin Porter has been nothing but kind over the past year, even helping the women of the colony expand their business through his freight company. Tori and Benjamin are going to visit the neighboring farms with a travelling shop in the back of one of his freight wagons and even though the idea of spending the day with the gentle giant scares her, she's determined to go through with it. This is my favourite of the the three stories!
In An Awakened Heart, Christine is a wealthy spinster who has spent years caring for her ailing mother and now that's she's gone she finds she needs a direction in life. She hears an impassioned minister speak to a women's group on his ministry in the roughest parts of New York's tenements and he issues an invitation for the ladies to attend a service. Christine begins to go and attend the services, but she also has a growing awareness that there's more they could be doing. They could be physically helping these people, not just simply preaching that their lives are immoral. Convincing the preacher of trying a new way to minister is a tall task, however.
Toward The Sunrise is a slightly unconventional story about Julie Broeder, from the Broeder family, who have served the extremely wealthy Vandermark family for nearly forever as groundskeepers at one of their extensive estates. This particular estate, however, has set nearly vacant except for a skeleton staff for 60 years. I can see why the description about this one is so short because there are so many twists packed into this little package. It's a little odd, but very sweet.

Sqquuueeeeaaaalllll! I'm so excited that these novellas are finally available in paperback!!!! Since I don't read ebooks I've been missing out on some of my favourite series. So, yes, you might have read these stories, but here's a chance to get them in hard copy for your Keeper Shelves...I mean, with these stellar authors, how can you resist?!
We've got spunky heroines who know how to frustrate their heroes to no end. There's lots of drama and angst sweetened with laughter and warmed with toe-curling romance. What more can you ask of your fiction?
