It is 1664 and Patience Terry is devastated to learn that Captain Jeremy Horton's ship has been shipwrecked off the coast of Barbados, with no survivors. She had hoped that Jeremy would someday give up the sea and settle down with her in Southold, Long Island.
Unaware his memorial service is being planned, Jeremy is rescued and aboard a British Naval Gunship with secret orders to attack New Amsterdam and claim it for the British Crown. When he makes his surprise return to Southold--and to an overjoyed Patience--it's not the happily-ever-after his beloved had hoped for.
With a finely tuned sense for authentic historical characters and settings, Rebecca DeMarino plunges readers into the 17th century--a world of high seas and tall ships, daring journeys and yearning hearts.

There was scant mention of him in To Follow Her Heart. Rather, the entire book was a wishy-washy narrative of Jeremy's lack of commitment and Patience's, well, maudlin patience with her commitment-shy suitor. Sadly, it was a waste of my time and money. The Epilogue could have been deposited at the end of volume 2, and it would have served just as well.

Which is why I could not wait for and devoured the latest book to come from Rebecca DeMarino titled To Follow Her Heart. She created such an amazing story that follows the trials of Patience and Jeremy during his naval service. I can barely handle the stress of the day to day whereas Patience and Jeremy were dealing with the uncertain knowledge of his safety. My best part, at least for me, has to be Patience's friends the dynamic made the story and helped embody the characters even more if that could even be possible. I loved the dialogue between them so much that I loved when I knew she would be hanging out with the ladies. Delightful! Oh, the ending was wonderful. Must read. I received a copy from Revell Books and all opinions are my own.
RachelGender: Female3 Stars Out Of 5Not my tasteSeptember 2, 2016RachelGender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3Ah! I hate being negative but I really had a lot of trouble liking this book. I wanted to, I really did but I just couldn't. This author is new to me and I knew this was the third in the series but I decided to try it anyway. I wasn't confused at any point. It being the 3rd book didn't bother me. I just didn't understand the point of the book. It seemed like the story never went anywhere. The highlights of this book are the historical setting, the cover art and the old English words and phrases. I really like historical fiction but this one missed the mark for me. I received this book from Revell in exchange for an honest review. A postitive review was not required.

What did I think about the book?
So this is book 3 of The Southold Chronicles and it is also the final book in the series. I read book 2, To Capture her Heart ( Book Review link) but this book could also be read as a stand alone. I love the historical details that the author used in every chapter of the book, like the detail of the ships or the little recipes that she included... They all fit together to tell the love story of Patience and Jeremy. I recommend this book to anyone who has read the first two books because the author concludes the series well and I also recommed this book to anyone who likes a historical romance novel with lots of ups and downs. Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 Stars ****
I would like to thank Revell , A division of Baker Publishing Group for allowing me to review this book in exchange for a free copy, I was not required to write a favorable review, just an honest one.
