Product Description

A New Translation Highlighting the Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith
Because the first Christians were Jews, Christianity has its roots in the religion of God's chosen and called-out people. Jesus' death and resurrection was not the beginning of a new religion but the fulfillment of the covenant God made with his people. Yet most Bible translations sacrifice the deep connection between the Jewish roots of our faith and the grafted-in Gentile branches, using imprecise English terms rather than Hebrew terms that encompass a fuller meaning.

The Tree of Life Version (TLV) is a new Bible translation, produced by the Messianic Jewish Family Bible Society, which highlights the rich Hebrew roots of the Christian faith by restoring:

  • The Jewish order of the books of the Old Testament
  • The Jewish name of the Messiah, Yeshua
  • Reverence for the four-letter unspoken name of God
  • Hebrew transliterated terms, such as shalom, shofar, and shabbat

The TLV Translation Committee
The Tree of Life Version translation committee of Messianic Jewish and Christian scholars. Working from the original biblical languages their goal is to render in English a biblical text that is accurate, readable, reverential, and true to the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith.

Endorsements

Endorsements for the Tree of Life Version

“The Tree of Life Version is a miracle in motion.”
Jack Hayford

“The TLV is the fulfillment of a long-awaited dream to have a complete translation by biblical scholars sensitive to the Hebraic character of both Testaments. The church has known since its earliest days that it has a spiritual indebtedness to the Jewish people (Rom. 15:27), since everything it holds dear came through Jewish hands. Unfortunately, this vital knowledge of the Jewish roots of Christianity is sorely lacking in the modern church. Fortunately, the TLV is now here to restore what has been lost at a time in history when it is needed most.”
Randall Price, PhD, Distinguished Research Professor; Executive Director of Center for Judaic Studies, Liberty Biblical Museum

“This Bible is the collective work of this renewed Messianic Jewish community and the first and only of its kind. Translated directly from the original Greek and Hebrew texts and vetted by some of our best and brightest Messianic theologians and scholars, the translation is true to its original Hebraic roots and idiom. More than a historically important work, it represents the fulfillment of this prophetic, last days’ restoration and the re-establishment of the Jewish Remnant to their unique and important leadership role in the body of the Messiah.”
Jonathan Bernis, Jewish Voice Ministries International

“When I read the TLV translation I found it refreshing and more than that, it was compelling. May God use it for his glory.”
Elmer L. Towns, Cofounder and Vice President, Liberty University

“We now have a project that is the first Messianic Jewish Bible that is the product of a mutually-accountable team that vets the translations so that they are not just the word of a particular individual. This is a milestone in Bible translation. The Tree of Life Version is excellent.”
Daniel Juster, ThD, Restoration from Zion and Tikkun International

“The Tree of Life Version combines dignity with readability. It is faithful to the original text while speaking in contemporary language, and it is highly sensitive to Messianic Jewish distinctives while at the same time serving the larger needs of the body as a whole.”
Michael Brown, PhD, AskDrBrown Ministries

“Reading the Tree of Life Version has been for me like the spiritual equivalent of the first time I saw high-definition television: there was a lot more Jewishness in the biblical text than I had ‘seen’ reading other standard English translations.”
A. Boyd Luter, PhD, Faculty in Biblical Studies, The King's University; Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies, Liberty University School of Divinity

“The Tree of Life Version is not only exceptionally timely, but it breaks the mold for the translation industry itself. It captures the nuances of meanings in a way previous translations have missed.”
Carl Raschke, PhD

“Anyone wanting to read a Bible from a Jewish Christian perspective should read this one.”
James Merritt, Lead Pastor, Cross Pointe Church

“At last a translation that connects the apostolic writings with the Hebrew scriptures in a way that makes the Bible one seamless story. The “Old Covenant” scriptures end with the story of Cyrus, the Persian king, rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The apostolic writings begin with the birth of Yeshua who is taken to that temple to be dedicated to the Lord.”
Don Finto, Caleb Company

“The Tree of Life Version of the Holy Scriptures is both sensitive to the Jewish people and faithful to the presentation of G-d’s Word. This wonderful translation will bless all who delve into its pages.”
Randy Weiss, PhD, Crosstalk International

“I wholeheartedly endorse the TLV version and encourage everyone to read it.”
Wayne Wilks Jr., PhD, Executive Pastor of Jewish Ministries, Gateway Church; President, Messianic Jewish Bible Institute

“I am so excited about this innovative new translation of the Bible. The Tree of Life Version is unlike any other Bible you’ve ever read. This Bible focuses on the Jewish roots that are so foundational to our Christian faith. With its relatable Hebrew language and authentic cultural context, you’ll gain a new appreciation for how the Bible was originally meant to be read and understood.”
Robert Morris, Founding Senior Pastor, Gateway Church; Bestselling author of The Blessed Life, From Dream to Destiny, and Truly Free

“The true-to-life translation of the thinking of first century people comes out clearly as the disciples, religious leaders, and crowds wrestle with words and deeds of Israel's Messiah and Lord.”
Dr. Jeffrey Feinberg, PhD, College of International Studies, Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics

“It is a joy to me to see an English translation of the scriptures which honors the translation practices of both Jewish and Christian traditions. With an overriding care for accuracy of translation, the translators have produced a translation which is reliable, easy to read, and understandable by readers from many faith traditions, while clearly deeply reflecting its Jewish heritage—not an easy task! I recommend the TLV for all who seriously want to know more about the ‘Jewishness’ of the scriptures—the freshness and vitality of the translation will invite the reader into a new appreciation of the ‘God of all time.’”
David Ross, PhD, President, Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics

It is a well designed bible. Easy flow and reading. The leather is a bit flimsey though, not as solid as other bibles. Designed by Messianic Community. Reads like a Messianic version of a paraphrased bible. It is more like a book than a study material. Would i read it? Yes. Would i use it for study? No. Lacks Scholastic references.

The Tree of Life Version is a wonderful translation that is a little bit more Jewish. It is put together by a Messianic Jewish Society and it follows the word-for-word ideal, but is still readable. It adds new life to the text as it does not fall flat in places that I expected. The use of Adonai gives The Lord/God a name and forces you to say it as three syllables as unfortunately, Lord and God often become lost in the text when someone reads the Bible as much as I do. They took out the usage of Yahweh as Israel would never say the name out of such reverence. They use many Jewish words all throughout and it kind of gives certain passages more meaning. They have translated the name of Jesus from the Latin spelling to the Jewish spelling of Yeshua.

To me it is not a primary translation, but one that I like to keep nearby as a version to read when I need something fresh. I would not try teaching from it as many people might feel a little uncomfortable hearing some of the names of God used as most Americans are not used to hearing them.

My hangup with this particular book itself is the pages and the font. I wouldn't call it unreadable as it isn't microscopic, but the font style of many Bibles has become similar and seems slightly elongated. The pages are super thin and bleached white. I use a lot of light to read and it practically blinds me with the reflection. Most Bibles are constructed this way as it is cheaper. I would always be willing to pay extra for better font that is a good style and size and for thicker cream colored pages that don't blind people from reading. But for the price, I can't ask for much more than good text.
