One day Eva Piper was an elementary school teacher, the mother of three, the beloved wife of a strong, protective husband.
The next day she stood at the bedside of a broken man who could do nothing but moan in agony and turn his head away from her.
Later she would learn that he had died and actually experienced heaven before being prayed back to lifea true miracle. Don Pipers testimony, told in the New York Times bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven, would one day bring hope to thousands. But all that was in the future. Despite family and friends who kept vigil with her, Eva Piper found herself essentially alone. Walking in the dark. And she had always hated the dark.
Though it parallels that of her husband, Eva Pipers account is quite different from his. It takes readers not to heavenly places but through a very earthly maze of hospital corridors, insurance forms, tiring commutes from home to workplace and hospital, and lonely hours of waiting and worrying. This is the story of a woman learning, step by darkened step, to go places she never thought she could go and growing into a person she never thought she could be. Packed with hard-earned wisdom about what it means to be a caregiver, to open yourself to the care of others, and to rest in Gods provision, this book provides a dependable source of light to help you walk through the dark.
Lonny Hunt2 Stars Out Of 5Not what I expected...December 27, 2016Lonny HuntQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I feel her pain but it could have been a short story of empathy versus page after page of repeated acknowledgment of how everyone helped the family. I don't know how it could have been written differently but it was too long for the message gleaned, in my opinion. Would I recommend it to a friend, sorry, no.

Susan Gruener5 Stars Out Of 5It's Great So Far...November 19, 2015Susan GruenerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm into the book a few pages and I don't want to put it down. The book is by Don Piper's wife Eva, who went through his whole ordeal with his horrific wreck, dying, and being brought back to life, as well as his years of recuperation. His book 90 Minutes in Heaven was fabulous and a life changer for me. Don wrote the foreword to Eva's book. I can't wait to finish this book! I know it will be good for everyone who wants to overcome challenges in life no matter how big!
CC3 Stars Out Of 5not like hubby, don piper's, bookAugust 12, 2015CCQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3A great value. I only paid $2 for this book, plus S&H. Quality was good, my aging eyes wished the print was a little bigger.
I expected some great insight, but was rather disappointed. Maybe an age difference or a personality difference between me and Eva: she had no idea how to run the household (i.e. write a check or buy a car). Praise God others were there to help her. That seemed to be a big part of her learning.
I was expecting a greater spiritual lesson since the subtitle is 'How my Husband's 90 Minutes in Heaven Deepened My Faith for a Lifetime'. In a latter chapter she does repeat many a pastor's message: read the Bible, pray continually, trust the Lord. Also, she sites the necessity of building and maintaining healthy relationships with those people physically near you so they will want to help you in your unexpected time of need.
I will still share the book with others because she does relate some perspective of her position. She has some very good advice for other long term care givers (take care of yourself!) And a few tidbits for those visiting the caregiver and the severely injured patient.
I would recommend this to others with the caveat it may be a little dry or slow moving, not like Don Piper's book.

This is the true story of Eva Piper when her husband Don Piper, author of 90 minutes in Heaven, had a tragic accident. Eva tells how and what she went through during his stay in the hospital and when he came home. She talks about how at first she was in survival mode as her husband was in ICU and not knowing if he was going to survive. She covers having to keep a household going, being a mom to her children, working as a teacher and staying with her husband in the hospital. She tells how she was in a very dark place and how GOD was the one to bring her through this.
Eva explains how she was feeling when asked about Don's condition, how she dealt with friends and family, how to deal with getting the energy to get through it all. This is a good book for caregivers and people who have hard situations in life and having to make difficult situations. It makes you see a whole different side of things and it gives an inspiring way to help when needed.
I would recommend this book to care givers and church members that do hospital visits. I also recommend readers to read Don Piper's book also. Reading both books gives two different sides to the same situation.
