Born and raised in western Michigan, Sharlene MacLaren attended Spring Arbor University. After graduating, she traveled, then married one of her childhood friends, and together they raised two lovely daughters. Now happily retired after teaching elementary school for thirty-one years, "Shar" enjoys reading, singing in the church choir and worship teams, traveling, and spending time with her husband, children, and precious grandchildren-and, of course, writing. Her novels include: Through Every Storm, Long Journey Home; the beloved Little Hickman Creek series, which consists of Loving Liza Jane; Sarah, My Beloved; and Courting Emma; the acclaimed historical trilogy, The Daughters of Jacob Kane, which includes Hannah Grace, Maggie Rose, and Abbie Ann; and Livvie's Song and Ellie's Haven, the first two books in her latest River of Hope series. Shar is an occasional speaker for her local MOPS organization; is involved in KIDS' HOPE USA, a mentoring program for at-risk children; counsels young women in the Apples of Gold program; and is active in two weekly Bible studies. She and her husband, Cecil, live in Spring Lake, Michigan, with Mocha, their lazy, fat cat.

Sonia5 Stars Out Of 5Great Book (Movie "Angel in the House" (2011)) clearly based on itJanuary 23, 2015SoniaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Hello,
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. First, it hit home in many places and confirmed some things to me. Frankly, I believe God was using it to speak to me. The timeliness of my reading it was nothing short of God-ordained. By the way, the only reason I bought the eBook was because the printed copy which I had purchased in a Goodwill store (I believe that's where I bought it), had a chunk of pages missing, and by then I was so into the book there was no way I was going to leave it. It's a page turner.
Secondly, I really enjoyed Sharlene's writing style. I felt like someone was telling me a story and I could see it unfold before me. Imagine my surprise when not too long after, I "happened" upon a movie on TBN called "Angel in the House". The plot was almost exact including the 7 year old boy who came to stay and healed what plagued the couple, to the child's room he was never allowed into. I did look to see where "Through Every Storm" was credited but I did not see it. Especially since T.E.S. was written in 2006. Great book! Great movie, too!
It's been a few weeks so my assessment is not very fresh. All in all, I highly recommend the book.
My third and most important point is the use of Scripture at the beginning of each chapter that really captured the plan of God to deal with problem presented and solved in the chapter. I love it.
This book is written in a style where you feel as if you are watching a movie. It is that good!
I could go on. Suffice it to say, once you pick it up, you will finish it.

It seems as if all is lost to them; their life, their marriage, and their hope. Estranged from the guilt they harbor over Emma's death, and punishing themselves for the past, they are headed to a divorce faster than a crashing airplane. When it seems as everything is lost, a precocious boy enters their life. Will Jeff and Maddie be able to restore what is lost to them? Or did Emma's death forever cripple their ability to love again?
I was quite sad that I read this book so quickly. The characters became endearing even in so short a time, and little Timmy was definitely my favorite. The crisis this couple went through wasn't easy, and even though I hoped it would work out in the end, I couldn't help but hold my breath as the story unfolded. There were moments of tension, of joy, of pain, of tenderness, of sorrow, and so many emotions all rolled into one. A highly recommended book even if you cannot personally relate to the subject matter. I promise you're going to love it.
