Publisher's Description

You've probably heard the words "Live out your faith" dozens, if not hundreds, of times, but what does that phrase really mean? And how do you really follow Jesus in today's world?

In this student adaptation of his book Thrive, Casting Crowns' Mark Hall explores exactly what it means when your faith and your life collide, and how you can take the next steps in making that faith real and evident to those around you. Using relatable stories, applications you can use, as well as some life lessons, Hall shows how you can root yourself in the truth and grow strong in your beliefs as you become the person God designed you to be.

Author Bio

Mark Hall is a true storyteller and a teacher with a heart for ministry. He is lead singer and songwriter for the Grammy Award-winning band Casting Crowns, whose first three albums have sold nearly four million copies. He has been in ministry nearly twenty years and has served at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia, for the last eight years. Mark admits he’d be overwhelmed by life’s demands were it not for his wife of nineteen years, Melanie, who also serves as Casting Crowns’ road manager. Even on tour, Mark and Melanie homeschool their four children: John Michael, Reagan, Zoe, and Hope.

Tim Luke serves as executive pastor of Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church, where he has been on staff for nine years after serving as editor of In Touch magazine, the devotional magazine of Dr. Charles Stanley’s ministry. Tim worked as sportswriter for ten years, the last four as a beat writer covering the Atlanta Braves. He has been married to Karen for twenty years and has two sons, Jacob and J.P.

I have received a complimentary copy of Thrive from BookLook Bloggers book review program in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255.

I received the Student Edition of Thrive by Casting Crowns Mark Hall and was thrilled to read it! He explored what it means when faith and your life actually come together. He discusses how you can make faith real in your life, not just let it be on the backburner. He uses real stories that are truly relatable and enjoyable to read. They are truly life lessons that have you wanting to continue turning the pages. Mark Hall discusses digging deep into the Bible and reaching out to others and how it is important to be able to do both, not just one or the other, to become the person that God has made you to be.

I loved reading this book. I read it before bed a few nights. I had a difficult time putting it down when I knew I really needed to go to sleep. Hall wrote the book in a way that it was easy to read and made me want to know what he was going to say next. The book is very relatable, and I felt like I could add something to all his stories or say, Yea, I know exactly what you mean, or Ive had that happen too! Hall also had me thinking a lot. I never really thought myself as a digging deep person or a reaching out person. I realized that I have a lot of work that I need to do with my faith so I can be both a digger AND a reacher. I love volunteering and helping others I seem to do it without even really putting too much extra thought into it, as it is also part of my career. I typically will choose to volunteer before I do things for myself this makes me a reacher. I need to focus some energy on learning to dig deep now. I highly recommend this book to others. I can only assume the original edition (non-student edition) is just as good as this one.

Split into two main sections, Thrive: Student Edition concentrates on helping teens dig deep and reach out. In the "Digging Deep" section, Hall explains how to have a flourishing relationship with Jesus. The second section: "Reaching Out" covers how to serve others and share God's love. Taken together, the two sections offer a balanced approach to living the Christian life.

These two sections are divided into a total of 30 shorter chapters. The book would lend itself well to a devotional style reading of one chapter reading per day. Each chapter includes one main "Point to Remember," which would serve well as thoughts to ponder throughout the day.

Topics such as looking at life with a Biblical view and evangelism are covered thoroughly with everyday language and personal allegories.

Overall, Hall's approach is relational and it reflects in his writings. Students will feel validated in their experiences and challenged to thrive in their lives by knowing Jesus better and reaching out to others.

As someone who works with youth in a youth group setting, I appreciated Hall's way of relating to teens in this book. It was real and heartfelt. He communicated strong truths effectively.

More importantly, as a parent, I am quite excited to hand this book over to my two teens. Each will have the opportunity to read and ponder Hall's words about thriving. It is my hope and prayer for each of my children...that they will grow ever closer to Jesus and continue to reach out, sharing His love with others.

I received this book in exchange for a review.

Mark Hall takes the 'Live out your faith' concept we all think we know about to a further step. The book is broken into two parts: Digging Deep and Reaching Out. With quick wit, truth, and grace Mark Hall tackles these topics with a Biblical and personal view and a sprinkle of testimonials. At the end of each chapter Mark highlights the Point to Remember making the overall message easier to remember for the reader.

Many authors today try to water down the word of God to make it attractive to teens, but not so with this book. On the other hand this book is best fit for a somewhat mature Christian.

If you desire a devotional to lead you in a closer relationship with Jesus this is for you. If you want a spiritual read to lead you in deep reflection of your spiritual condition this is for you. If you are a high-school student, then this is definitely for you.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from BookLook Bloggers review program. As I read the non-student edition a few months previous, this review is almost exactly like the other with a few changes.

I have to say I love this book. I knew from the very first chapter, it was going to be one of those books that was going to be 5 stars for me. Immediately, I started telling people about this book.

Mark Hall is such a relatable person, and a great writer. The stories that he tells make you see that even as a pastor and the lead singer of a successful Christian rock group, he is still very human like his readers. He struggles just as much as we do.

There were only two things I did not like. The first was towards the end of the book with the proselytizing. I don't agree with it. I've hated when people have done it to me, and I would hate to make other people feel uncomfortable as some once did to me. I have never agreed with it, and I can't see me doing it to someone. I understand why the author feel that proselytizing is necessary, but its not for me. On the other hand, there are those who are very comfortable with it. If it's your thing, go for it.

The second thing I did not like was more about where I am in my faith journey in relation to the book. The book itself assumes that you're somewhat further on your journey than I am. I am a very new returner to my faith, so I really need more digging deep time before I could even think that I am near to where the author assumes I am in my journey.

Overall, it was an incredible book that I am keeping on my bookshelf for a very long time.
