Tell us a little about yourself. Born and raised in sunny Southern California I am, first and foremost, a sinner saved by grace. The Lord has given me a heart to help the lost and hurting find their way to truth and wholeness. Ive traveled the world (over 22 countries) and have an affection and curiosity for other cultures. God has given me an adventurous spirit and I love the summer sunshine, the beach and anything that involves the ocean. I enjoy doing anything creative. Writing for one but I also enjoy painting and photography and have even had some of my paintings and photos exhibited in art galleries throughout the US, in places like Washington D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles. I live in South Orange County, California and currently attend Harvest Christian Fellowship in Irvine (Harvest OC) under the teaching/preaching of Pastor Greg Laurie. I am blessed to serve there as a reporter, on the intercessory prayer team, as a leader in the Virtue womens ministry and as a decision follow-up counselor. Ive had the privilege of being part of a new Christian television series called The Adventures of Roman and Jorge as Executive Producer and got to play the role of a reporter named Susan on the first three episodes. To pay the bills I work just outside of Los Angeles at an industrial air filter company as Chief Marketing Officer/General Manager. Its more exciting than it sounds, believe me. Climbing up a seven story ladder open to the elements, to observe a huge gas turbine inlet air intake is quite an adventure. Did you know the same gas turbine engines that lift huge passenger jets up into the air also produce much of the worlds power? Surveying hospitals from basement to rooftop and getting to know the engineers who oversee such facilities is interesting as is serving on the California Society of Healthcare Engineering.
What was your motivation behind this project? Once God got a hold of me and revealed the depth of His love through Jesus, I couldnt help but share this awesome news with others. As I began to share about Jesus to those I came in contact with, I noticed a pattern; nearly every single person I came in contact with who wanted to know more about God had been through something that I had. Some struggled with issues of abandonment and insecurity; some never knew their biological fathers and assumed that God was distant and unavailable. Others struggled with the loss of a loved one (in particular a close sibling). Several had issues relating to relationships, sex and the meaning of love. And a large number of people struggled with alcohol, drugs and/or eating disorders. When I spoke with them, I could genuinely empathize and I think they could sense that. But I had something amazing to share with them the love of GodJesus. It occurred to me, if the Lord can use me to reach individuals who are hurting, perhaps He could use my story to reach even more. I prayed about it and began to write my (Tinas) lifes experiences; the good, the bad and the ugly. I thought about how amazingly my life is being woven together by the master Weaver. Each and every thread, whether it be a bright beautiful color, a drab dreary brown or grey, the darkness of black or the bright light of white, are necessary to make the tapestry complete. I liken my life experiences, each one, to a different color thread in the tapestry of my life that God is weaving. Each and every one-- including the great difficulty of black-- is crucial in making me into the woman God created me to be. Thats why I titled the book THREADS.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? First and foremost my hope and prayer is that readers come to understand the depth of Gods love. I hope they learn if youre not living in a right relationship with God, youre not really living as you were created to live. I hope those who feel insignificant learn that they are not invisible to God. I hope the fatherless come to know a Father who loves them more than any earthly father ever could. I hope those who have abandoned by a loved one, come to know that God will never leave them nor forsake them. I hope those who think that sex outside of marriage has no consequences that it does, that sex doesnt equate to love and that God loves them unconditionally. I hope that girls/women who think their value is directly connected with their looks, come to see how beautiful they are in the eyes of God. I hope those who have lost a loved one find comfort and grow closer to the God of hope. I hope that readers learn theres nothing they need to do to earn Gods love. I hope they learn that God is there waiting for them even when they fail. I hope they learn not to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus more than other Christians, a church, or even their pastor because; humans are faulty and imperfect. I hope they learn just how much God loves them!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? My entire life has been part of the journey to the publication of THREADS. Particularly the past four years or so; I have a tendency to self-sabotage anything that looks as though it might bring me the attention Ive so desperately been seeking all my life. When my paintings began being exhibited more, I put down my paint brush. When the scarves that I knitted began selling more and more, I put down the knitting needles. So when the Lord pointed that out to me I was determined to finish my story. I will admit, it hasnt been easy, especially writing the BLACK chapter. Ive had to re-live some painful memories but through it all, the Lord has been so close; He has given me the peace and strength I needed to finish. Reflecting on the lessons God has taught me has been a huge blessing and I look forward to creating more in-depth lessons that will be available for download for those who purchase the book.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I love my Saturdays sitting in the sunshine on the balcony, watching the hummingbirds as I dive deeper into Gods word and allow Him to speak to the innermost depths of my soul. I enjoy reading books written by Oswald Chambers, Max Lucado, Ann Graham Lots, C.S. Lewis, Greg Laurie, Cathe Laurie, and Ray Comfort. Aside from the Bible, my favorite book is Oswald Chambers devotional My Utmost for His Highest.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)
