Publisher's Description

The Bible teaches that the goal of the Christian life is to become like Jesus—for our own personal growth and for the sake of others. Every believer needs to ask three big questions: What do I believe? What should I do? And who am I becoming?

In Think, Act, Be Like Jesus, bestselling author and pastor Randy Frazee helps readers grasp the vision of the Christian life and get started on the journey of discipleship. After unfolding the revolutionary dream of Jesus and showing how our lives fit into the big picture of what God is doing in the world, Frazee walks readers through thirty short chapters exploring the ten core beliefs, ten core practices, and ten core virtues that help disciples to think, act, and be more like Jesus Christ.

This compelling new book can be used in conjunction with the 30-week all-church Believe campaign or read separately as an individual study. Either way, readers will deepen their understanding of what it means to not just know the Story of God, but to live it.

I have given this book to friends and we all feel the same way that it is tied to the Christians personal life and teaches you what God expects from us daily and how Gods expects us to live our lives. Are we making the right choices, are we growing as Christians, are we studying the Bible or just reading it? In chapter 5 "Beliefs" Randy Frazee has given us key questions we should test ourselves to see if we are child of God. While doing this be honest with your answers. He is showing us who to live like JESUS. I look forward to reading more of his books.

So Randy Frazee along with Robert Noland has penned an excellent guide to aid us in living like Jesus. The book, "Think, Act, Be Like Jesus," helps us to read God's Word, think like Jesus would, and act on the Word of God to be like Jesus. This book is the companion book to Believe, the review of which is here. Believe took the bible and pulled the passages which aids in understanding our choice to believe in Jesus Christ. Think, Act, Be Like Jesus expounds on that by showing us how to live like we believe in Jesus Christ.

It was in January 2015 that I wrote a five-star review for Believe: Living the Story of the Bible To Become Like Jesus. This month I received a companion volume that adds to the value of the original book.

As a companion, the current work follows the same outline as the original work. However, the author makes little comparisons between the two books other than to hint that they are both designed to help us on the journey to becoming more like Jesus. Both texts leave me anticipating what I will learn and how I will change as I move through their individual or collective contents. Casual observation suggests that Believe is more closely tied to the Biblical text, while Think, Act, Be Like Jesus is more closely tied to the Christians personal life and what God expects from that life. That is not to say, the two books do not serve some of the same purposes. The first book focuses on the scripture allowing the reader to dig into their content and discover for him or herself what they expect from the believer. The second book focuses on the believers responsibility by asking more questions that will direct the readers thoughts toward a helpful path.

There are three ways these two books could be used to help the believer grow into the Jesus kind of person:

    1. Use the two books together, either as an individual or a small group setting - they do complement each other and the reader will be challenged by using the two in tandem.

    2. Use Believe in a classroom or structured setting. Its heavy dependence on scripture (using either the embedded NIV or another translation) would certainly allow the student to draw their own conclusions as they seek to grow into the person Jesus would have them be.

    3. Use Think, Act, Be Like Jesus in a small group setting. Its more directive approach would lead toward helpful discussion as a group of believers seeks to become more like Jesus.

Having said that, either book could be used individually or in a group setting - but the above expresses how I might consider using the books. The teacher or small group leader would be well-served by having both volumes available in planning the course studies. I continue to give both books, individually and collectively, a five-star review.
