HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Challenging Book I Wish I'd Had as a Teen!August 20, 2014HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: femaleI wish I'd had this book when I was a teenager! Natural optimist that I am, I still struggled with insecurity and fear. I still allowed myself to dwell and wallow in negative thoughts when life wasn't going my way. I don't believe there isn't a teen who couldn't benefit from the principles in this book--whether they're an optimist or a pessimist or somewhere in between. Each devotional for the day is short but sweet, and it will make any reader reflect and think. The book highlights the importance that what you allow your mind to think about directly impacts your ACTUAL life, the choices you make, and that those thoughts can/will affect the rest of your life. The devotions are broken into the joy of things like free will, decisiveness, perspective, knowing whose you are, words, truth, discovery, focus, His presence, self-discipline, yadda yadda.... pretty much everything is covered, and it's covered in a way that I believe is fitting for either guys or girls. What I especially like is that the book is life-changing and not watered down. I've seen so many teen devotionals that are all fluff with very little substance--this one isn't like that. It will challenge the reader to think and will challenge them on their walk with God. Highly recommend!
eb7bibliophileHigh Desert WestAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Inspiring and WorthwhileAugust 12, 2014eb7bibliophileHigh Desert WestAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This little book is great for inspiration. It is aimed at young teens, with simple tasks and clearly explained verses. Even adults would do well to internalize these precepts. As others mentioned, it is geared toward younger teens by being simply written, but has a few concepts that may be inappropriate except for the older teens. It is upbeat, engaging, and helpful. It encourages focus on God. Its lessons are worthwhile. I will remember this one: Replace negative thoughts with gratitude.
bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great Devotional for TeensJuly 25, 2014bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Think 4.8 is a book that discusses how powerful the mind is and how our thoughts can affect our future. The author uses Philippians 4.8 to teach his readers the importance of thinking thoughts that are positive and uses a practical, step-by-step plan that applies this verse to everyday life. This is a good book for teens and adults because most actions are the result from a thought. This book will help readers realize how thoughts shape personal attitudes, actions, and ones well-being as well as future. I found several key principles that applied to my own life and I am sure that every reader will find something in this book that will speak to them too
tickmenotKansas CityGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5ââ¬ÅThink 4:8 Forty Days To a Joy Filled Life for TeeFebruary 23, 2014tickmenotKansas CityGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a short book that very clearly gives steps to follow to live a joy-filled life every day, no matter what the circumstances, and in the process, gain a closer relationship with God. The volume contains forty days of devotions and is geared towards teenagers. It is based on the following Bible verse:
"Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about it." Philippians 4:8
Basing the book on the above verse, the devotions concentrate on how to bring joy into the everyday life of a teenager. Each devotion covers different situations. The circumstances described are events that could commonly be part of most teenagers lives. Therefore, I believe teens could relate to this volume very easily. This work is very practical and down-to-earth.
Each devotion is only a couple of pages long. It is always followed by some sort of activity for the reader to do. For instance, one day might ask the reader to write down a list of things to be grateful for. Another day might suggest the reader think about a sticky situation that might occur, and brainstorm some possible positive ways to handle it.
The end of each devotion also includes a "talk it" section which involves communicating with someone about the main focus of each devotion. This is followed by a "sticky note" that summarizes the main thoughts that have been covered. Lastly, a short prayer is given for help with the subject of each day.
This great book was a joy to read, had great advice, and lots of realistic applications. I think a teen would have no trouble reading it, or putting into practice most, if not all, of the suggestions. The cover design is eye-catching with a large smiley face in the middle.
When looking at devotionals, one wonders if it will really appeal to a teenager. Since I have a teen living under my roof, I asked if they would look it over. Not only did my teenager look at it, I had a very hard time getting it back. I believe that speak volumes to the appeal of this book. Even though this is targeted towards teens, adults will enjoy it as well. I had been a bit reluctant to review a devotional, but am so glad I did. This book was a blessing to me.
This small, very readable volume, offers advice that I believe, if put into practice, would point one's life in a positive direction. Personally, if a book could do that, I think one should run to get it as fast as possible-and that is what I recommend you do with this five-star work.
The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Tyndale Blog Network (Tyndale House Publishers) for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.
DanniAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Love it!December 30, 2013DanniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have reviewed a few devotionals for teens before but THINK 4:8 is by far my favorite one ever. It is truly focused on what is pure and right. It teaches kids that you can focus on what is good, that it is a choice. That is even something I am still learning.
Part of me wished this devotional was a whole year and not just forty days. Some of my favorite days were the Joy of Purity, Joy of Awareness, Joy of Being Battle Ready, and Joy of Simplicity. There were many simple and useful ways through the entire book on how to keep your focus on God. As an adult (knowing this is a teen devotional) I found myself going hmmm maybe I could do that.
This is definitely one that I will be giving my daughter to read in the new year to read and go through together.
I received this book from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
