While it was written well and has some good insights, I didn't think it was all that different from several other self-help/find your calling/unique talents books that I've already read.
It's still a good book; just not a great one. Perhaps if you hadn't already read books on this subject you'd find it more interesting than I did.
I received this book free from Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program and was not required to write a favorable review.

He walks you through questions you should be asking yourself, connections you should be making, and helping you discover that one thing that makes you, uniquely you. From self reflection to self promotion, Phil Cooke helps you figure it out for you.
Phil Cooke is a writer. An excellent writer even. But this book did not speak to me at all. I'm not sure if it was purposeful or not, but the book seemed to be more of a marketing nature. Marketing yourself, for sure, but marketing nonetheless.
The middle portion of the book was perhaps the most desirable part of the book. Mr. Cooke really helps you look at yourself and think about whether you are fooling yourself or are on your way to really doing your One Big Thing. I enjoyed this section so much, I think that it is something I should really reflect on several times a year. After all, our lives do seem to change that quickly and it's easy to lose track of where we are.
I have to admit that I am unable to remember large portions of the book. It just did not stick and I did not have the fever for reading this as I have other similar books in the past. I suppose my disappointment lied in the fact that a Christian man did not put enough (as a matter of fact it was only mentioned once that I can remember) in the lesser known "roles" in life. Not everyone needs an article about them in Time magazine.

abbyjewelNew JerseyAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Interesting and impactful but a bit dryAugust 11, 2012abbyjewelNew JerseyAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3"What were you born to accomplish with your life? One Big Thing will help you discover what you were born to do and allow it to revolutionize your business, your ministry, and your life." This book has the reader ask themselves several important questions to help you determine what you were born to do. "Stop being average at so many things, and become extraordinary at One Big Thing."
While the book was interesting and did have some impact, I felt it dragged on quite a bit with repetition in the beginning. I found myself just wanting to get through the early pages to reach the good stuff but I was a bit disappointed by the time I reached the end. The author uses his writing experience in many of the different stories and examples along with many of his friends in Hollywood. I found this more distracting than relevant since I am neither a writer or in film and would like to have seen more stories of the "everyday Joe". I do enjoy the subject matter very much and just finished reading a very similar book prior to this so I may have been comparing the two too much.

JessAge: Under 18Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5August 11, 2012JessAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I received the book One Big Thing from Book Sneeze (booksneeze.com, get books for free!), and gave it to my father to read. He said it was a great book, and was very helpful.
The book says it helps you discover what you were born to do. Through the journey of the book, it helps you determine the difference between a job and a passion, create strategies to help you pinpoint your purpose, and deflecting the questions that could derail your destiny.
I really recommend this book!
