Exiled in shame and wounded in battle, Caden O'Byrne accepts a mission to go into enemy territory to find his healer's long-lost daughter. At worst, he'll get his death wish. At best, this could be God's second chance. But the lovely, larcenous Sorcha will have no part of him, his God, or the rescue...until a murder forces them both to run for their lives. While Caden's rekindled faith is tested, Sorcha wonders if his God is real. Add to the mix a stargazing princess, a capable dwarf, a scheming witch, an improbably beautiful eel fisherman and you have the ingredients for a surprising, page-turning tale. King Arthur's Scotland comes alive in this addictive saga of intrigue, treachery, second chances, and the liberating power of love.

Linda Windsor is the best-selling, award-winning author of thirty novels, with an estimated million books in print. A former professional musician, Linda speaks often (and sometimes sings) for writing and/or faith seminars. Her recent work includes Healer and the early Celtic Fires of Gleannmara trilogy.
This work, the second in the Brides of Alba series by the prolific romance novelist Linda Windsor, centers on Caden O'Byrne, a jaded soldier who was one of the villains of Healer, the first book in the series. Given a chance to redeem himself after a near-fatal injury, Caden agrees to rescue a beautiful young Celtic woman sold into slavery to the Saxons as a child, and the rest of the novel plays out their romance and adventures at the Saxon court. Windsor loves her sixth-century Britain setting, and while this period has been thoroughly explored in all types of literature, her weaving of Christian themes with Arthurian legend adds distinctiveness. Likewise, even though her plot and characters are mostly overused types--a handsome, troubled hero meets a beautiful, kindhearted heroine and together they fight a villain, perform a daring escape, find new hope, and live happily ever after--Windsor's competent storytelling makes her tropes fresh and entertaining again. While the novel will win no awards for originality or depth, it should be a welcome diversion for anyone seeking simple entertainment that reflects Christian beliefs and values. KimberlyAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5ThiefSeptember 15, 2012KimberlyAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3My husband and I have enjoyed reading this second Brides of Alba book out loud together. We read Healer together and plan on reading Rebel together, as well. While my husband didn't have any issues with the pace of the story, I felt that the whole thing was some awesome pivotal scenes strung together with a lot of filler. There were too many times when we found it easy to put the book down and not come back to it for weeks or months. I also felt that the book was entirely too long; there was a lot of fluff that could have been left out. The roster of characters is head-spinning, but I did manage to keep most of them straight. I liked Sorcha very much, especially her gift of music and singing. Caden grows tremendously throughout the book, both in his faith and in his values. If you like histories of the early Christians or Arthurian fiction, you may want to try this series, starting with Healer.

Miralee Ferrell5 Stars Out Of 5Exceptional FictionJune 18, 2011Miralee FerrellQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was in my top three books I've read so far this year...an amazing work of fiction. The story of Sorcha's search for her roots--who she is, where she belongs, and who she loves, drew me in and held me captive. The characters are beautifully drawn, the plot and dialogue never drag, and I loved the interaction between the variety of characters. Good action, adventure, and a glimpse into an era not often written about. I didn't know there was a "book 1" when I read this one, and while I did miss a little background and would recommend you DO read book 1, I still thoroughly enjoyed this one. I've read very little of this author's work in the past, but am now a die-hard fan. I bought the first book in this series and plan to read it and the one that comes after. I HIGHLY Recommend this series, this book and this author!!
