Have you ever wondered how successful people do what they do to get to the point where they are :)? The author interviewed 12 successful people in various fields and from different backgrounds such as a songwriter, actor, teacher, minister, dancer, soldier, governor, and entrepreneurs. They share their career highlights, triumphs, and challenges. I'm glad that they boldly share how their faith in God/their relationship with God/their reliance on God has helped and influenced them. You will find valuable insights and practical advice throughout the whole book. Certain decisions and choices lead to certain consequences. You will see again and again how crucial it is to seek God and to make wise decisions.

Each profile is very interesting. I've always enjoyed reading biographies and autobiographies so this is like reading mini-biographies :). One of my favorites from the book is the centenarian teacher, Ruth Haymon! Wish all teachers were like her! Topics covered in the book include work ethic, leadership, accountability, persistence/perseverance, integrity, the importance of education, among many others. I really like the WOW (Words of Wisdom) and What Can YOU Do Now? sections at the end of each profile. There's also blank space at the bottom of those pages for readers to write down their notes, thoughts, steps to take, or how they can apply what they learn in their own lives. Don't ever give up your dreams/passion that God put in your hearts! Keep pursuing God's will and God's purpose for your lives! Check out this encouraging read filled with nuggets of wisdom! It would make a great Christmas gift for high school and/or college students, especially those who have aspirations for the same occupations mentioned in the book.

Touching on the lives of 12 different people who have succeeded in their lives, we the reader are taken on a journey of triumph. Many times adversities have to be overcome in order for the person to achieve their goal.

In each case the person was focused on their goal and they made the effort to achieve. Education and the support of those in their lives is a common thread running throughout their lives.

Each story is told from the perspective of the person about whom is the focus, which adds a distinctive and unique flavor to each. This book would be a great gift to give to a young person in your life as it would be an encouragement to them as they determine the path that they are about to forge for their own life.

    How did they do that

A well researched compilation of successful individuals. This book inspires, motivates and encourages all, I mean every age group, culture, race, background color, and social standing. The "WOW" insert is a plus to us the readers encouraging us to abort fear and do what is needed to reach our life goals, recognizing that we are not the first and will never be the last in difficult pursuits. It's the endurance that counts and it is well captured here. Thanks to Bookfun.org for giving me the chance to honestly review this book without bias.

ven path to reach where they are today. How Did They Do That by Deborah Tompkins Johnson examines the lives of many different people, from the viewpoint of the person. Each person reflects on the choices that they have made and then they give their Words of Wisdom which can help the reader with their own life choices. Johnson did a great job in covering a variety of people and allowing them to share what they considered the defining points in each of their lives. This book kept my attention very well. I was given this book by The Christian Bookclub Network and the author in exchange for my honest review of this work.

I don't read very many non-fiction books, because they do not necessarily keep my interest from one opportunity to read to the next time I can sit down. However, this book did not fall into that category.

It was very interesting to find out how 12 different people started, some with absolutely no background in their chosen career, and yet the succeeded! The trials and tribulations served as impetus towards their success.

Each person interviewed has given words of wisdom that they have used in their own lives. After that, there is room for notes so that you can take this book to heart and learn from it!

This book is well worth reading - more than once, I am sure. While it may be particularly good for college age and young professionals, I do think we all have something we can learn from this book.

I received this book from The Book Club Network in return for my honest review.
