Gary Shogren (Ph.D., Kings College, Aberdeen) was raised in small-town New England (Rhode Island) in a family that had roots back to the founding of the colony in the 1600s. He grew up in the Baptist church and came to believe in Christ at the age of 6. However, when he was a teenager, a series of experiences led him to a deeper walk with God and a sense that God was calling him into ministry. After a number of years of education (culminating with a PhD in New Testament from Kings College, Aberdeen, Scotland) he served as a pastor and then as a professor. He has been a NT professor since 1988.
In 1998 he and his family moved to Costa Rica to learn Spanish, so that he could teach at ESEPA Bible College and Seminary in San José, Costa Rica; teaching online from the US since 2021. He has written a number of articles and several books, including articles in the Anchor Bible Dictionary, Novum Testamentum, and Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels; Diccionario Enciclopédico de la Biblia; a Greek grammar textbook; Running in Circles, a guide for counseling drug addicts; Spanish-language commentaries on 1 Corinthians, on 1-2 Thessalonians (in English from Zondervan), and on Romans. He is married to Karen and has four grown children. See Gary's blog at openoureyeslord.com
Clinton E. Arnold (PhD, University of Aberdeen) is Dean and Professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology in LaMirada, California.

Tell us a little about yourself. My wife Karen and I have been missionary professors to Costa Rica since 1998. I currently serve as New Testament professor and academic dean.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have always loved the Thessalonian epistles, and especially for the strong pastoral emphasis in the first letter.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? That word-for-word Greek exegesis and pastoral love are not opposites but two sides of a coin.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? If the time I have spent in study has taught me anything, it is that I should put my books aside for a while and imitate the apostle: to make myself more available to speak to groups, no matter their size to find a handful of brothers and serve as their mentor to take a more active role in personal evangelism to participate in work projects that tangibly show Christs love above all, to pray for the advance of the gospel
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My friend Gene Green has written such a wonderful commentary on the letters that it was hard writing in his shadow - he is also my predecessor at Seminario ESEPA, where I teach the New Testament in Spanish. He and other scholars who I know from Aberdeen University, such as editor Clint Arnold, I. Howard Marshall, Bob Mounce, Eckhard Schnabel - well, too many to name! - exert a constant pressure on me to serve God with my best efforts but mainly to ask God for his guidance.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I hope that the volume will help them to be better preachers and pastors, disciplers, preachers, prayer warriors and evangelists.
