She does talk about Jim in the book, (they were seeing each other before they both left for the field) but it is mostly about her time out in the mission field. She was young and new to the field so it is a truthful account of her surprise to the life of a missionary. I enjoyed her stories of the people and the difficult situations that were common there. She learned a lot and her writing reflects that. A true insight to the missionary life.
Lauren in ScottsdaleScottsdale, ArizonaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5My favoriteNovember 14, 2011Lauren in ScottsdaleScottsdale, ArizonaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Elisabeth has been my spiritual mother. I own all of her writings and have had the privilege of hearing her speak many times. This is my favorite of all her books. In a culture that expects happy endings and swift answers to all prayers (like "magic"), these thoughts on God's sovereignty and our baffling journey of faith have challenged me time and again. I reread this book. (There are few books I can say that about.) I also give it to young missionaries, especially when they are disillusioned by their early days on the field. Highly recommended, from my heart.
