Tell us a little about yourself. After 30 years in the landscaping business and nine years selling major appliances, with writing as a second job during much of that time, I have been a full time writer since 2008. My wife, Elizabeth and I live in Houston, Texas. We are active members of First Church Heights, SBC.
My primary areas of interest are Christian encouragement, baseball, and personal finance. I have had over 130 articles, short stories, devotional pieces and verse published in a wide variety of Christian periodicals. My first book, "Good Cent$," was co-published in 2010. My second book, "Theres Reason To Be Encouraged," was published in 2014.
What was your motivation behind this project? My focus is on encouragement in all of my writing. I try to encourage believers in their walk with Christ, and I try to encourage non-believers to seek Christ for the answers they so desperately need. I hope that comes through in "There's Reason to be Encouraged."
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people will be encouraged by the book. And I hope readers will be a little closer to Christ after they read it than they were before. And I hope they can get a laugh or two out of it as well.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I was spiritually energized by writing it. I have memorized a lot of the poems and encourage myself with them when things go a bit off course at times.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Of course, the bible is my biggest source of inspiration. I have also been inspired by everyday people and the stories and wisdom they have to share. Like most writers, I have many favorite authors. If I had to pick just one, I think it would be CS Lewis.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I would like to urge readers to never give up. There is no reason to. There is every reason to be encouraged. Our God is a big God and he knows what you are going through. Go to Him with your questions, concerns, desires, etc. He's patiently waiting for you to come.
