In the wrong hands, a spiritual gift can be more dangerous than a deadly weapon.
Parker House is a young lawyer working for a small, struggling firm in New Bern, North Carolina. His uncanny ability to anticipate an opponent’s next move is earning him a reputation as a formidable adversary in the courtroom. This gift is part of Parker’s heritage. His grandfather, Franz Haus, was a German soldier who rose rapidly through the ranks of the Nazi party as a result of this gift of discerning the enemy’s movements on the battlefield. Though Franz was a patriot, he experienced serious misgivings about the Nazi party. When his commanders ignored one of his warnings and his family perished in an allied fire bombing, Franz deserted, fled to Switzerland, and ultimately immigrated to New Bern, where he settled into comfortable anonymity.
With this inherited supernatural gift, Parker enjoys remarkable success, even besting one of the most powerful attorneys in the state, who then asks the young lawyer to join forces with him. But Parker has reason to question his motives: is the older attorney a positive mentor or an evil counselor? Can Parker’s vision help him do more than make the right arguments in court and lead him to the right path in life? Will Franz’s past force its way into Parker’s present—placing him and those they love in mortal danger?
Anna MaeAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5The Witnesses by Robert WhitlowFebruary 5, 2017Anna MaeAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm a bit skeptical about clairvoyance but it was a great story. I liked how Frank, Parker, and Layla came to recognize their need for God through different circumstances and different time periods.
Frank, a youth caught up in a deadly war aiding the Germans who recognized his unusual perception of future events or things that were going to happen greatly helped their side of the war but caused many deaths of innocent people for which he felt responsible.
Then, his own family suddenly were killed by a random bomb. That signaled the end of the war for him and he deserted and later after various circumstances, he immigrated to America and ended up as a commercial fisherman in North Carolina.
He had a good life, married, had children - all natural normal things but his past kept coming back to haunt him and here's where the story picks up with bits and pieces suddenly coming back to his consciousness and interrupting the present and with it guilt. He finally realized his need for God's forgiveness.
While all of this was going on with Frank, we get a glimpse of his grandson Parker's life as a young lawyer who possibly inherited Frank's clairvoyance which is being recognized by his employers. Layla, a young attractive photographer he is interested in appears and you can guess the next. I like the way the story keeps coming back to God and the need for His love and forgiveness for all three of them.
Whitlow keeps you guessing as to how it could possibly turn out. Very hard to put down. Another winner for Whitlow.
I want to thank Fiction Guild for sending me this exciting book.
