Reviews

Hauck weaves an intricately beautiful story centering around a wedding dress passed down through the years. Taken at face value, the tale is superlative, but considering the spiritual message both on the surface and between the lines, this novel is incredible. Readers will laugh, cry and treasure this book. - 4 1/2 stars Romantic Times

  1. 4 Stars Out Of 5
Good Blend of Historic and Contemporary Romance

This review was written for The Wedding Dress.
This book pushes a lot of my romance-reader buttons. It has conflict, secrets, lead characters with integrity and faith, and a few characters and events that make things a bit more interesting on the way to happily ever after. Now, I'm not a huge fan of dual-timeline stories, and that might have tripped me up if the author hadn't so seamlessly woven THE dress throughout each of four brides stories. And along with the (sisterhood of the traveling) wedding dress that miraculously fits each bride without alteration, a certain odd gentleman in purple who seems to be in the right places at all the right times to give little nudges to those brides.

While some of the characters (ok, mostly Tim) took me a bit to warm to, I instantly fell for Grace and her beau. There is something about encountering lively older characters in novels that just tickles me pink, and I have a definite fondness for 1930's stories.

Ultimately, this is an unabashedly romantic novel. Romance that spreads across the decades and links four women in more ways than one. It is also very much a feel-good novel that also touches on prejudice, pride, grief, and faith.

Having read the entire Royal Wedding series in quick succession last December, I once again enjoyed the author's writing voice in The Wedding Dress. Hauck's writing is consistent, pleasant, and inviting. I love how the faith of the characters is just out there, being lived and discussed, and I always enjoy seeing how she weaves in the supernatural element. Her characters are also consistent, unfortunately, in that they sometimes almost feel like watching the same set of actors trying to take on slightly different roles in a series of movies.

An enjoyable, quick, and decidedly Southern read. 3/5 stars for sheer romance and enjoyable storylines.

The Wedding Dress requires a large element of suspension of belief, but once that is accomplished, what a delightful story!

Rachel Hauck has written a heart-warming and enchanting (in more ways than one, but I don't want to give away the story) tale of four women linked through decades by a beautiful wedding dress.

Each of the four women, beginning with Emily in 1912, are on the cusp of marriage. However, each has a major struggle to overcome, and the wedding dress figures prominently in each situation.

Interwoven throughout the story is a Biblical theme, interspersed with magical whimsy and mysticism, reminiscent of fairy tales. For instance, a ubiquitous, seemingly ageless, purple-attired man appears to two generations of brides. More incredibly, the wedding dress fits perfectly around the figure of each bride, no matter that their physiques and statures differ. The dress is magical and the story intriguing.

I was disappointed with one section, near the end, that gave away an integral part of the story. However, except for the spoiler, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the women, their lives and most especially, their wedding dress.

The Wedding Dress is book one in a series. Nonetheless, it can be a standalone book. I read the second in the series, The Wedding Chapel, a little over a year ago, and didn't realize it was a sequel.

I received this book free through the Fiction Guild program in exchange for an honest review.

Splendid read with mystery, intrigue, faith, and love all woven into a tale that has one wedding dress which Dian's the time of four weddings. Traveling back and forth between past and present, is a beautiful story of God and his institution, marriage. Terrific read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm not a contemporary fan, but this book will be put on my forever shelves!!

" That salvation summer she drank up, devoured, lived the reality of a God's love and desire for her. She had a Father. And the cross she'd once disdained was exhibit A of Jesus's fierce love for her."

Four women, one dress. It fit them all perfectly. When Charlotte Malone, a wedding dress salesperson, stumbled upon a trunk at the Ludlow auction little did she know that she would find a wedding dress inside, let alone a wedding dress that would change her life. Intrigued by the mystery of where the dress came from, and how it got in the trunk, Charlotte begins investigating. But will she hit a dead end, or will she finally find the secrets of the dress? Will she have her happily ever after?

This whole story reminded me of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie. You know the story I'm sure, the group of girls take turns having the pants for a few weeks, and they fit each girl perfectly. However, this story is so much better! Each woman in this bookhas her own story of how she got the dress, and how it fit them each perfectly without any alterations! Stories of romance, and some tragedy. It brings all of them together to unravel the secret history of the dress Charlotte has found. I absolutely loved it.This is the first book in the series that includes The Wedding Chapel and The Wedding Shop, so I read it out of order, and they can each stand alone. Brilliant, brilliant book! I highly recommend getting this one, and while your at it, get the whole series, because none of them will disappoint if you love a good romance!

**I received this book free from the publisher through the Fiction Guild program. I was not required to write a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
