Although not normally drawn to a romance I found this book thoroughly enjoyable with its mystery and suspence! Another keeper as well as not minding buying more books by this author either :) Enlightening as well in the history aspect and uplifting with the spiritual parts...

Fresh and unexpected, The Weaver's Daughter is a wonderful Regency that deals with issues of class, commerce, and social mores. This stand-alone novel combines the fraught beginnings of the industrial revolution with a star-crossed lovers romance. Sarah E. Ladd's writing shines in the portrait of a time and place as well as the crafting of believable characters.

Highly recommended for readers who enjoy chaste romances with themes of loyalty, love, compassion, and faith set in early 1800's rural England.

This review refers to a finished copy I voluntarily received from the publisher through Thomas Nelson and Zondervan's Fiction Guild. All opinions expressed are my own.

This novel is set within the time period of the Indusrial Revolution in Yorkshire, England. Henry Stockton is coming home to the village of Amberdale after serving as a soldier for three years. The sights, sounds, and actions of war has caused him to have nightmares and flashbacks, but he must fight it and begin working with his grandfather in his textile mill. It's a very volatile time with new machinery being invented that will improve efficiency but also cause many to lose their jobs.

Kate Dearborne works as a weaver with her father, but he is not willing to progress and is clinging to the old ways. Millers vs Weavers is beginning to start a war in their village with threats of damage to the mills. Henry just thought he was back from the war!

I enjoyed getting to know each character and their personalities, some good, some questionable. The story moved right along with action and danger within the pages. New friendships were formed while old ones died away. Loyalty is questioned as pride and bitterness take root. And yes, there is romance too! The author described the time period perfectly to where I could picture myself there among the turmoil.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the Fiction Guild but was not required to write a review.

Feuding families and they are next door neighbors too! These young family members are seeing the way the future is changing over to machines and the way of the past is not easy to let go by the older members. I enjoyed the story as we read about the struggles of weavers fighting the switching over to machines and losing their income and family legacies. Murder, suspense and a touch of romance made for a wonderful story. I requested a copy through NetGalley, My review is voluntary

Um...wow? Is that all I have to say? Well, maybe more like WOW!!!!!!!!!! (exclaimed in a hyperventilating gasp of awe accompanied by recurring rushes of goosebumps.) I mean this is the kind of all-encompassing, emotion-stirring, heart-snatching thrill of a read that's certain to send an avid reader into a tailspinning swoon. And it takes you ages to get through because your mind is on fire with all the possibilities that might be on the horizon for this hero and heroine. So you have to stop reading, catch your breath and dream ahead a bit before you can bring yourself to continue. Because if you read The Weaver's Daughter too fast it will be over too soon, but if you linger too long in the miry muck of angst you're libel to suffer long-term ill effects.

Oh dear, if that sounds like addled jibberish, well, that's what this story has reduced me to. I shall try to rally my sensibilities and strive for a coherent thought or two.

Think North and South. Not the American war between the states mini-series but the British period drama. If you loved that movie, you will LOVE this novel. Weavers versus millers at a time when innovative thinking was threatening the livelihood of traditional occupations. The moral dilemma of child labor. A forbidden Romeo and Juliet kind of love (only with a much happier ending!) Tyrannical patriarchs who stir the unrest into a broiling fury of emotions. Any one of these elements would promise an enthralling read but combine them all and it's positively spellbinding!
