SUMMARY: Its been a year since her husbands death in a tragic rock-climbing accident, and Shauna struggles to raise their young son and make ends meet. A friends final words to her before he is murdered convinces Shauna she is in danger. She teams up with her husbands best friend to unravel secrets that have been around since her childhood.
MY REVIEW: Well, I wonder if Im the only one who has never read Colleen Coble before? I admit I picked this one up because I love the smell of lavender and its got a gorgeous cover. LOL. Although murder mysteries are not my usual cup of tea (because I never know whodunnit until the author reveals it!), I have seen this authors books everywhere and thought Why not? And I was pleasantly surprised. I actually enjoyed it!
I really liked the characters. They felt realistic in their struggles with their faith and with their grief. There was enough doubt cast on various characters in the story to make you suspect several, and yet a few surprises were also thrown in. I would recommend it to my friends, and I will be purchasing this one for our church library. I also plan to read rest of the series when they are published. Hmm, perhaps Colleen Coble will get me hooked on murder mysteries!
The only thing I felt was off in the story was that the killer seemed so much more cold-hearted in the beginning than the end. At the end, he didnt really want to kill again. I dont know it just seemed inconsistent with the development of his character at the beginning.
MY RATING: 4 stars. I decided to go ahead and give it 4 stars despite the off feeling with the killer at the end. I did really enjoy the story. It kept me wanting to read to find out what happened.
At my request, I received a free electronic copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. This review reflects my honest thoughts and opinions on the book, and I received no compensation for this review other than getting to keep the e-book.
Tammy G.East TexasAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent ReadFebruary 14, 2018Tammy G.East TexasAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Colleen Coble's mystery reads are some of my favorites. In this particular book, The View from Rainshadow Bay, I thought the suspense was quite well intoned. Since the setting of the story is in Washington state where the beautiful lavender fields produce quite an artistic flair to this wonderful story.
Shauna is trying with all her might to make a go of it since her husband, Jack, died. She's doing her best to raise their son and keep her sanity.
Then her business partner is murdered. And it seems that she and her son are now in grave danger. The one person she knows might be able to help her is also the one person she blames for her husband's death, Zach Bannister.
But Zach wants to help Shauna. He feels guilty but he knows he might be the one person that can help her stay safe.
What a story! Loved the suspense and the mystery. Honestly had a hard time figuring out the "one" who is guilty.

Musicgirl665 Stars Out Of 5Wonderfully SuspensefulFebruary 14, 2018Musicgirl66Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This book does not fail to capture the reader's interest from the very beginning. From prologue through the epilogue, it was a hard book to put down. Shauna's husband, Jack, died in a climbing accident she blamed on his best friend, Zach. Can she ever forgive him? She is barely holding things together for her son and herself. On top of that, her business partner is murdered as she is leaving his house. What is going on? As usual, Colleen Cable weaves a masterful story of intrigue and danger that does not disappoint the reader. I'm looking forward to future books in this series.
Renee CPAAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5A Promising Start to a New Series!February 13, 2018Renee CPAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I'm such a sucker for romance and especially one with a great setting! Colleen Coble's contemporary suspense novels are some of my favorites for that reason alone. First, her Hope Beach novels set in the Outer Banks (Beach vacay, anyone?) and now this series set in the Pacific Northwest. I can't imagine anything more romantic than the beach and Ms. Coble has novels set on both coasts now.
While the reader's view from Rainshadow Bay is indeed quite lovely (the rocky coast and the lavender!) the story falls a bit flat. The chemistry between the leads didn't work for me. Colleen Coble has written some amazing stories where couples faced huge stumbling blocks, but the romantic aspects in those books happened more naturally for lack of a better word. I couldn't get past the idea of a woman hating someone one minute, blaming him for her husband's death, and moving in with said guy the next for the sake of physical protection. Ugh. I was so frustrated by this! Ugh! That said, the suspense and mystery of the story was excellent. I did not see the bad guys coming from a mile away like I often can in most suspense I read. Ms. Coble is one of the best in the Christian fiction mystery/suspense genre in my opinion!
The View From Rainshadow Bay promises to be the start of an interesting series that looks like will be connected to the previous Hope Beach series'. I can't say anything else for fear of spoiling the ending for you readers! Even though the romance didn't click for me, this book is a solid three stars and one for fans of Colleen Coble to grab if they get the chance.
