In our extended families' homes, it is a coffee table book to serve as a witness to those who enjoy our hospitality. I respect that it is biblically accurate, including Jesus' instituting His supper (reference Holy Scripture, Matthew 26:26ff While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins...") Thank you, Dr. Paul Maier, for a quality family book (as well as The Very First Christmas).

I wanted a more factual and informative telling of the real meaning of Easter in an easy matter of fact, yet kid-friendly way. Everything else I've found is too frilly and dances around the true center of what should be honored this time of year. I was hoping to find a book that would explore some of the more sensitive matters surrounding the death of Christ and expose the natural rollercoaster of feelings we should have during Holy Week (including the sadness) without it being too scary, and this book did an excellent job of that. The best part is that she didn't want to stop when we had to take a break for dinner and she asked questions so I know she received the real message. An added bonus is that the author references biblical passages throughout the dialouge so she found it cool to crossreference with her childrens' bible. I am So happy to have found this book! I highly reccomend!
Joy Noelle4 Stars Out Of 5March 26, 2009Joy NoelleThe art in this book is wonderful. The Bible story is accurate. However, I have a doctrinal issue concerning the Lord's Supper (page 10). The book refers to the Lord's Supper as a sacrament through which God offers His grace and grants forgiveness of sins. I believe it is taken to remember what He did for me on the cross. That is the only disagreement I have and as this book is for children ages 9 to 12 it makes a good starting point for a spiritual discussion.
