Publisher's Description

As a young bride, Jennifer Smith couldn’t wait to build her life with the man she adored. She dreamed of closeness, of being fully known and loved by her husband. But the first years of marriage were nothing like she’d imagined. Instead, they were marked by disappointment and pain. Trapped by fear and insecurity, and feeling totally alone, Jennifer cried out to God: What am I doing wrong? Why is this happening to us? It was as if a veil had descended between her and her husband, and between her and God—one that kept her from experiencing the fullness of love. How did Jennifer and her husband survive the painful times? What did they do when they were tempted to call it quits? How did God miraculously step in during the darkest hour to rescue and redeem them, tearing down the veil once and for all? The Unveiled Wife is a real-life love story; one couple’s refreshingly raw, transparent journey touching the deep places in a marriage that only God can reach. If you are feeling disappointment or even despair about your marriage, the heart-cry of this book is: You are not alone. Discover through Jennifer’s story how God can bring you through it all to a place of transformation.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The author puts it all out there in her memoir, and its done in such a way that I finished it in less than 24 hoursonce I could get into it. Once I did however, I couldn't put it down. This book is a candid look at her marriage and the problems that she has come across. The end of each chapter has questions for you to focus on with your own relationship or marriage. Depending on your relationship, they may or may not be pertinent.

This book truly shows you that if you just have faith, and trust in God that He can help heal a very broken marriage. However, having been through abusive relationships in the past, I need to say that if you are in an abusive relationship, get out of it, dont hope for God to heal your partner. Dont even walk away from it, run away as fast as you possibly can. God doesn't want his beloved creation to suffer abuse in the name of a relationship.

I truly enjoyed reading this book, and I hope that the questions in each chapter can make me take a good hard look at my own marriage and see where I am at fault as well, and where healing can help make our marriage stronger.

This is a very different kind of story that I have ever read. It is the true story of Jennifer Smith and how she was determined to save her marriage. Jennifer tells her story in each chapter covering her struggles and trials, at the end of the chapter, she has very helpful questions for you to think about and help you make the right choices for your own marriage. This story covers the subject of intimacy and your faith in GOD.

I would recommend this book to women and especially anyone that is a wife. It is a light read, with a very heavy subject that you can't take lightly. It is a special book that talks about a subject matter that I have not seen talked in this type of manner, with grace and class. It has GOD and faith in every chapter of this book.

The Unveiled Wife is a story of a young couple who seemed to have almost everything going for them.

They met in a home-style youth group, the love of God bloomed in both of their hearts, and they went overseas in ministry as newlyweds.

Yet on the inside, when they went home at night, their marriage was miserable.

There were times of happiness, sure, and delight that they were married. They saw God work around them and through them, they were committed to Him.... but still they were in trouble, and they knew it.

When you reach the point where you can't go on like this anymore, what do you do?

As Jennifer says, everyone enters marriage with some baggage- unmet expectations, imperfections, and insecurities.

Some of these will be more pronounced than others depending on your past, your personality, and the lessons you've already learned.

This book was a rather freeing read, because it says this- God's children still make messes.

They still hurt each other, they still lose hope.

And through all of this, God remains. Draws near, in fact.

    Transforms the hearts involved.

This book speaks to a profound truth- you grow into grace and truth over time. And it's worth the effort and the struggle.

Even without being the target audience, I came away with this: No relationship- even dealing with manipulation or unkindness and distrust- is too far gone if you have two partners fully intent on restoration.

Chapter 29 "Dealing with Heart Issues" should be made into a booklet and added to every marriage-prep course.

On second thought, let's just include this whole book as pre-wedding reading.

It will provide vocabulary for expressing specific concerns that otherwise might never be addressed.

It will require you to make space for the hard questions and the potential disappointments.

And it will give encouragement as you try to meld your life with another person's.

I thank Tyndale Momentum for my review copy.

When I chose this book to be my next read I had not idea how it would profoundly speak to me. As I write my thoughts today, I intend to be straight-forward, yet tactful.

Jennifer Smith writes The Unveiled Wife with true courage. She tells her journey through tears and fears, but what I appreciate most of all, is her courage to call sin what it is. There is truth to pain and hurt, but how we respond to those things will dictate whether we truly are living for God's glory or just living through the pain. Mrs. Smith's initial love story of how she met her husband and their love for the Lord was beautiful, but it became ugly pretty quickly. In one or two words, I would say idolatry and expectations were what I sensed right away. Probably because I have struggled with those things myself.

She delves right in to their wedding, honeymoon and thereafter, expressing candidly the struggles they had in their intimacy. Physical and real struggles that seem to have no answer. As she describes these times, I think most women can relate...maybe not to the physical pain but to the wedges, no matter how different they are, that are put up between a man and his wife. Jennifer helps the reader to see that these walls are sin and how coming to the cross and understanding the importance of intimacy with the Savior are linked hand in hand.

Every women should pick up this book and read it. Personally I have read the practical books on the journey for a man and a woman after marriage, but to hear this beautiful story and how God used all of it, even the ugliness for growth and change. To be more like Christ.
