lanabo5 Stars Out Of 5Action packed suspense with answering inspirationMarch 25, 2020lanaboQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Lisa Harris weaves a tail that pulls the reader in and has you experience every heart pounding moment along with the characters. Spies are passing on top secret government information and the FBI is hot on the trail. But code names and disappearing data are making the trail run cold. How do you break a spy ring with no pictures or names to work with?
Jack has been working this case for months and a lead brings him home, hoping to grab a quick cup of coffee and chat with his brother. He left years ago to chase the dream of sacrifice and law enforcement with the FBI, but there has always been another reason shadowing the background that he never told anyone. His childhood best friend Aubrey loves to return home for the hunting and adopted family. She also has pursued a dream of defending victims and law, becoming a detective. But she has reached her end point, needing a break to clear her head and re-center her life. One the first day of her vacation, everything falls apart. A shooting, kidnapping, spies, car chases, and safe houses gets Bree stuck back right in the middle of everything. A place Jack wants to avoid having her, even if her father is looking like the middle of this storm.
Lisa Harris brings her characters to life, with human weakness and doubts making them relatable and real. I wanted to give them advice and help find the bad guy before anything else went wrong. They drew me even deeper into the story, going over the clues to find the truth. The riveting suspense kept me up late and guessing until the end. I can't wait for the next book by Lisa Harris, it is already on my want list! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Fhlady4 Stars Out Of 5Fast Paced Texas SuspenseMarch 22, 2020FhladyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5releases-challenge-2020, romance
Heart racing suspense from beginning to end, this latest suspense novel by Lisa Harris is filled with twists, turns, and numerous unsavory characters. Detective Aubrey Grayson and FBI Agent Grant McKenna have been friends since childhood. Now they find themselves embroiled in a case that begins when Aubrey's Papps, her stand-in father, is shot right next to her on a duck hunting trip and she is kidnapped. Grant is determined to figure out who is behind this and why. He becomes involved when he learns that the FBI case he is working ties in to Aubrey's kidnapping.
Harris brings Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas to life with her wonderful descriptions, and her plot puts your right in the middle of all the action. With chills, thrills, and great pacing, the writing held my attention every minute. I liked that the romance took a back seat to the suspense and that Harris also maintained a good spiritual thread without being preachy. That is especially seen at the end when Aubrey has to decided whether to hang on to bitterness or forgive even though it wasn't easy.
"I don't believe God gets frustrated at our trying to get to know him better. Even when it involves questioning what he allows to happen. "

MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Page-TurnerMarch 18, 2020MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleIf you enjoy a book with a lot of action, this is the one, in fact I had the feeling I was watching the evening news.
While a read of fiction, this one sure could be true, and that in its self is very scary, but the author quickly had me page turning, I needed answers, and my guesses to what was going on kept changing.
The book starts out with an innocent duck hunt, and ends with a bomb, literally, and much more in between. We are also given a bit of sweet romance, a longing to have what it not to be, or is it?
The dynamics of family relationships, and the heartache that it can bring, along with those who were there for those who were in need.
You don't want to miss this one, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, and page-turning for answers!
I received this book through the LibraryThing, and was not required to give a positive review.
Mark5 Stars Out Of 5loved itMarch 14, 2020MarkQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5No offense to the author, but when I first read a book by her a few years back, I was just like "she is OK...". Then I read more her books, and discovered she is more than OK. I have come to love her suspense novels, and she is definitely one of my favorite suspense authors.
The Traitor's Pawn is evidence of her being such a great author. I enjoyed this book a lot. I made the mistake of starting it on my lunch break at work, and had to put it down at a very climatic moment....which there are many of in this book.
Harris kept me guessing for a while on who was the true target, why, and if the guy they finally suspected was truly guilty or was a victim of a frame job. Even towards the very end of the book, I found myself back and forth on the guilt of the suspect.
As with the majority of Christian suspense novels on the market, this one is romantic suspense. This book is different from a lot of those out there. In Traitor's Pawn, the two main characters had been best friends for years when they were younger, but a dating relationship with the male lead's brother and the female lead had prevented anything beyond friendship. It is a nice departure from guy meets girl, people try to kill them, they fall in love, and they live happily ever after. Not that those books are bad. :)
There was a lot to like about this book, and I enjoyed every minute I spent reading it. I am thankful there are quality Christian authors like Harris who continue to put out great clean and Christian suspense that is worth reading. And I have always found her more interesting since she is a missionary.
This appears to be a stand alone novel.
