Characters introduced in Diane Harper's "The Train to Omaha" face relationships that could tear their families apart or bring love into their lives. Can Heather, a run-away mom and wife, escape her mundane life, and a controlling husband? Can Nikki trust God's work in the father of her son's life who says he has changed? This review was written for The Train to Portland.
This unforgettable story follows the lives of three women, their accounts laced with profound echoes of the real world.

Heather, a wife and mother, wars with the discontentment that's plagued her since her teenagers were small children. Her struggle is compounded by her well-meaning but overbearing husband, Peter, and a circle of friends whose self-centered lives seem more glamorous than her own. The old flame she reconnects with on Facebook further complicates the situation.

Colleen is a young widow in love with a good man, Ted, who loves her in return but doesn't share her beliefs. The longings of her heart conflict with her faith - and her heart seems to be winning. To make matters worse, her twins seem almost as taken with Ted as she is.

Nikki, Colleen's good friend, is a fellow single mom facing a big decision. The father of her son is back in her life, and she isn't sure whether to believe him when he says he's a changed man.

Author Diane Harper weaves these relatable women's stories together skillfully, keeping the pages turning. Emotion is given a beautiful voice through Harper's poems, included in Heather's story.

The Train to Portland is a tale of heartrending decisions, of love and loss, of second chances. Don't miss it!
