Explosions. Secret deals. Mysterious murders. Captures. Beheadings. Politics. And a very intense ending that leaves readers on pins and needles for the next book.

When Joel Rosenberg began to write on the threat of Radical Islam, he had not heard of the group ISIS. He says, As I went down the list of radical states and terrorist organizations in the region that might be able to gain control of WMD in Syria...I conferred with a range of Middle East experts, current and former intelligence officials, and retired U.S. and Israeli diplomats and military leaders, I asked who they thought was the next big threat likely to rise in the region. Without exception, they all told me, ISIS.

In a few months, events escalated faster than imagined making ISIS a household name, and making his novel a plausible scenario. In keeping with Rosenbergs descriptive writing style, the reader of this book is dropped alongside the characters, hearing, seeing, smelling, and feeling the scenes.

The main character, J.B. Collins, a New York Times correspondent is given the mission to immediately report the truth about rumors that ISIS captured chemical weapons in Syria. And, if true, what do they plan to do with them? Genocide? Who? When? Where?

At the same time, there is breaking news of a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine to be signed in a few hours. If signed, will the treaty suppress ISIS? Or inflame their mission?

In a chilling interview with the head of ISIS, Collins asked, Would you align yourself with Adolf Hitler if you could? No, he said without hesitation. Why not? He would align himself with me. Why is that? Because, Mr. Collins, in the end, I will kill more Jews than Adolf Hitler ever dreamed.

Collins was struck with the well-organized and orchestrated plan of this terrorist group. The leader openly stated to him that We aim to capture and behead the president of the United States and to raise the flag of ISIS over the White House. We aim to assassinate the prime minister of Israel. to rid the region of apostate Arab leaders to topple their governments one by oneand reestablish a true caliphate with me as the emireventually extending throughout the region and soon the globe.

Toward this end, Collins learned that ISIS is recruiting furiously for their movement not just from Arab countries but from America, Europe, and Asia, blending in to each culture to unleash jihad when the command is given.

The uncanny developments from the research stage to the books final edit, places it on the must-read list for context when watching current events unfold.

I knew that before I read the latest Joel Rosenberg installment in the J. B. Collins series, The First Hostage, I had to reread The Third Target. While it is true that part of the reason for doing so was due to the fact I read tons of books a year, it is equally true that the story inside this series is multilayered. The action and tension in the book are unending while readers also try to figure out if there is someone on either side of those for good or evil who may not be who they appear to be at first glance.

    J. B. Collins is a journalist who has an insatiable thirst for adventure. He is attempting to run away from facing his lack of a spiritual walk with the Lord. J. B. learned a lot of his craft as a journalist in the Middle East at his grandfathers knee. Times now are more dangerous than ever and there are those who dont want J. B. revealing what he learns to the world. Why? Evil men wish to attack their targets unaware and therefore unprepared.

If memory serves me correctly, one reason Rosenberg is writing the series is to inform people via fiction of events that are a touch of the reality he sees and knows. Rosenberg realizes he can reach many more people with the truth of current events and the gospel through stories rather than in a lecture format. For me, it is easier to read and learn than to listen; I am not an audio learner.

Both The Third Target and its sequel The First Hostage are inextricably connected and need to be read in order. The Third Target ends on cliffhanger that caught me off guard the first time I read the book. Now I am ready to delve into The First Hostage to once again see how J. B. Collins is not just following a story, but is also part of the story in the articles he is writing. Plus I want to see if J. B. is yet at a point where he sees that without Jesus Christ he isnt ready for eternity. So grab something warm to drink, climb under a blanket and lose yourself in the adventure which is unlike any adventure you have ever been on before!

Joel Rosenberg's best of the best!!!! Unfortunately, as in the past, much of the story is no doubt prophetic. But oh can that man write a story AND he can preach the Word! Part of promoting this book, he preached at a California church for 40 minutes, following a personal interview. He was preaching on Ezekiel 33:1-9 WITHOUT ANY NOTES!!!! All he had was his Bible in front of him which he used occasionally to quote verbatim from the Word. What a gift that man has been given ... very special!
