This is not my normal genre but I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find it entertaining and captivating. The story is being told by the oldest Larcen daughter who is a teenager. The descriptions of the Tethered World made it easy to envision the countryside, the cities, the characters, and the animals. It was as if I was right there with the Larcen kids although I kept reminding myself that this was a fantasy, not the real world. The story raised questions in my mind that I'm not sure how I would answer. How would you respond if you were awakened by the police at 3:00 AM to discover that your parents' van has been found at an unexplained location and they are nowhere around? All you can find is a note on their pillow telling you your aunt is coming to spend a few days. What would you do if your aunt told you that you have family ties to the Tethered World, a place you didn't know existed below the surface of the earth? And how can you possibly believe that you and three of your siblings are going to have to take a journey to this place you've never heard of? Oh, by the way, what about those Gnomes, Dwarves, Leprechauns, Trolls, Ogres, and Faeries that you have only heard about in fairy tales but are suddenly meeting live and in the flesh? I think it would all be a bit much to swallow but it was interesting reading. I recommend you read it for the fun of it no matter what your age. I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The opinions are strictly my own.

The Tethered World is the first of 3 books in a series that I'd recommend to anyone who is into a heart wrenching adventure that keeps you on your toes, makes you fall in love with and relate to the characters. The story is original, exciting and never disappoints. Check it out for yourself.

"Home to creatures that once roamed the Garden of Eden." Now that's an interesting premise to a story! While marketed as a YA , The Tethered World felt more like a coming-of-age Middle Grade to me. Which isn't a bad thing. Rather than the stereotypical YA adventure; heavy on the romance and *chosen-one* syndrome, this story focuses on family and growing up. There is very light hinting toward possible future romance and the violence is mild - tension-building but not gratuitous. The variety of mythical creatures was fun - leprechauns, trolls, dwarves and gnomes (they aren't the same thing), nephilim (!!) and more. Christianity is a very natural part of the story rather than preached at the reader. I did feel like the story was a little slow to get off the ground - things start with a bang but then it takes a few chapters before the trio head out on their adventure. It made sense as part of the story setup but I was anxious for them to get going so I chafed a bit waiting. All in all this is a fun story, with no cliff-hanger but ending with the door wide-open to explore even more of the mysterious Tethered World.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy by the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This story is an amazing adventure, filled with characters that draw you in and take your imagination for a ride! There is a strong family bond that is tried and tested as their faith is stretched along the path God has chosen for them. Along side the struggles there is plenty of humor and some fun too! I have read this book series (The Tethered World, The Flaming Sword, The Genesis Tree) several times and I would recommend it to teenagers on up.

This is a great middle grade to young adult book that features homeschoolers. I especially like that one of the main characters has autism.
