Product Description

The Tabernacle dominates fifty chapters in the Old Testament, while all of creation requires only two. Yet attaining an understanding of the design and significance of God's first house among His people gets scant attention in most churches today.

A proper understanding of the Tabernacle provides a graphic understanding of God's redemptive program. It clearly pictures sinful man, holy God, and the incredible price required to bring the two together. A grasp of the Tabernacle's sacrifices, services, and priesthood is prerequisite to a proper understanding of more than half the book of Hebrews, and countless other New Testament passages.

Many books have been written on the Tabernacle, mostly focusing on its services, nearly omitting the priesthood and the various sacrifices but this book focuses on the Tabernacle in a simple, systematic way making it easy for beginners or long-time students to understand the Tabernacle.

Publisher's Description

The Tabernacle dominates fifty chapters in the Old Testament, while all of creation requires only two. Yet attaining an understanding of the design and significance of God's first house among His people gets scant attention in most churches today.

A proper understanding of the Tabernacle provides a graphic understanding of God's redemptive program. It clearly pictures sinful man, holy God, and the incredible price required to bring the two together. A grasp of the Tabernacle's sacrifices, services, and priesthood is prerequisite to a proper understanding of more than half the book of Hebrews, and countless other New Testament passages.

While numerous books have been written on the Tabernacle, most focus on its services, virtually omitting the priesthood and the various sacrifices. Newer Tabernacle books are often sketchy in their content, overly fanciful in their typology, and include exaggerated anti-types of Christ that the text never intended.

David M. Levy provides a resource equally helpful for those with little Bible knowledge and those with many years of personal Bible study, promising to challenge the reader with the significance of the Tabernacle.

I was, for the most part, dissappointed in this book. There were several things I did not like, but first a positive point. This book gives an overview of the Tabernacle, service of the priests, and the Lord Jesus relation to each. For the student seeking such an overview to understand the subject better, this might not be a bad choice.

I will only cover three of the issues I had with this writing.

    1. The author seemed to over-stretch in an attempt to connect each and ever thing about the Tabernacle with Jesus:

Good bible student know the Tabernacle contained many shadows and types of the Messiah; however, I felt the author presented conclusions which were either erroneous, or he failed to convincingly articulate them.

    2. The author failed to cite references from other writers and/or commentators as proof or justification for his opinions:

I have no issue with new opinions or interpretations. There are many scholars who interpret passages of Scripture differently, or voice varied opinions. In these cases, other writers, scholars, commentators, and the such are cited in support of the authors opinion. In some cases, opposing views are cited as well. This book lacked in this area.

    3. Poor citation of Scripture.

After providing an opinion on a subject, the author would make a statement with a reference verse in parenthesessuch as (this is NOT an actual quote from this book):

"The white linen in the priest's garments represented Christ as the Lamb of God." When the reader looks up the reference verse, it says Jesus is the Lamb of God and makes no connection to the white linen. No reference verse is given to justify the connection with white and Jesus. So, in another words, the reference verse only confirms half of the authors statement and not the other. I found that this was the authors normal citation method in this book. His Scripture references rarely, if ever prove or reinforce his point.

I am no scholar; however, I have read many books on this and other closely related subjects by scholars and non. The author of this book took a different approach than most writers. I would have liked to see him argue his points more vigorously, adding proofs and justifications for his opinions. Give me a good argument for your interpretation and I'll listen. If not, like in this book, I found myself ever wanting to move-on and get it over with.
