GwenCAAge: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5February 16, 2011GwenCAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1It says in the Bible to not be controlled by anything but the spirit. But, if masturbation becomes a sought-out urge, then we become enslaved and controlled by our own lusts. The author went by opinion, but not by God's opinion which is what really matters. Singles have reached years in refraining from masturbation...and this book did not help them. This book did not help me. It was God's word that helped. It is in Him we get all types of satisfaction, and that is better than anything, even masturbation. Please disregard this book and look into the Word of God instead. Find your satisfaction in Christ and Christ alone. It is possible (with God, all things are possible...I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me) because I have seen God work in me to combat this particular sexual sin. Have heart. If you have God, you will be able to defeat this.

Basically, he presents his opinion that this is the same as whether we should eat meat offered to idols. But he fails to mention whether this relates to purity, holiness or lust. Kind of glaring omissions.
If you want one man's opinion, buy this book. If you want to grow in purity, this book won't help.
The Navigators have put out a lot of great books. This is probably the poorest book they've ever put out.

Doug5 Stars Out Of 5July 28, 2009DougThis book was outstanding and really brought a lot of freedom in the area of masturbation for me. It was nice to be able to see that a lot of the things I thought about masturbation were not God's laws, but really just traditions & beliefs passed down from men. This book is great.
kaya5 Stars Out Of 5August 7, 2008kayaare you guys kidding? this is a very eye-opening book! i'm 16 and i struggle with this issue as does another 97 percent of men. as it is not talked about in the bible, masturbation is described as a wisdom issue in this book. just like eating meat sacrificed to idles it remains up to the Holy Spirit to guide the individual into whether it is a sin for him or not.

as mr. gerali says "the important thing here is trusting Christ to be Lord over sexuality. He must be in control of creating the balance that allows us to experience healthy, God-given sexual urges and arousal rather than inappropriate, deceptive sexual drives." You see God created us to be sexual beings. and that's good. therefore having healthy sexual thoughts is not a problem. we must examine what is given in His Word and act accordingly. for example obviously we shouldn't go around looking at women lustfully cuz Jesus tells us that's adultery. but if we have healthy sexual thoughts then it shouldn't be a problem. Also some people can experience masturbation without even lust. at the end of the book the author gives 3 choices to choose from about our view on masturbation: 1)deciding to call it sin 2)choosing liberty, within limits 3)discerning the right and wrong times.for me the Spirit guided me into the 3rd decision. discerning the difference is the Spirit's work in me. this is just my view. it's not the same with everybody. no one can make their decision universal for everyone. it's a personal decision guided by the Spirit.in any of these cases i believe God might have deliberately not given us all the answers so that we would always run to Him for help. all 3 of these cases require us to seek Him and His wisdom each day. ultimately it is a freeing process. thank you steve gerali for this freeing and eye-opening book!
