One of the best Biblically based movies I've seen. Worth owning

As a young girl this was on of my favorite movies. In a way it is one of the many ways He used to draw me to Himself, despite it's not being 100% scriptural. When I read the actual book later in life I found it interesting that God used it to comfort my heart dearly and it has become very special to me. Even though it's depiciton of how Ruth and Boaz came together is wrong and Ruth's history is pretty much fictional, this movie remains true to the spirit of Christianity and what it is all about, with lessons on conversion, forgiveness, loyalty, faithfulness, sacrifice, repentance, love for others, and love for God. It is primarily a love story between Ruth and God, which for a Hollywood movie is almost unbelievable. As a movie itself it was well done, realistic, good acting, at least it's wholesome entertainment, and that is hard to find these days in movies. It's kind of ridiculous to be judmental about parts of it being fictional. Considering how short the book is it would be impossible to make it into a movie otherwise. It is really a movie like The Robe, namely: it is very good and has a Christian message. Although loosely based on the Bible, not so loosely as to be heretical.

At first, I wasn't sure what I would think about this movie. After viewing it, I would recommend it. Although it is an older movie, I think the storyline is very good and believable. The acting is good. The beginning was a little shocking (the idol sacrifices). I had to fast forward through that part the second time I watched it. I like the fact that this is one of those movies that you can kick back and just enjoy!

If Ruth were not a real person whose story was told in the Bible, I would have thought the film was great story-telling. This movie creates a fictional fantasy about Ruth's background (of which we know very little), and then proceeds to rewrite almost all of the history of her life with Naomi as it is recorded in the Bible. Perhaps the movie should have been titled, "A Fictional Story about Ruth: a non-biblical account."

child sacrifice, Boaz a Moabite hater at start

This is so unscriptural as to mislead, not worth watching. There is a better one accurate to the Scripture staring Carmen.
