Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Deloris D. Duncan. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA. I attended Savannah High School and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Savannah State University. I began a career with the Federal Government while attending Savannah State and worked for about 32 years. I retired from government service in June 2011 and have decided to devote the rest of my life to living a Christ centered life as best as I can and to encourage others to do the same. I have lived in the metro Atlanta, GA area for the last 22 years. I have facilitated classes on discipleship in the Baptist as well as Methodist churches. I have also facilitated classes for Childrens Church and worked with Adult and Young Adult Ministries.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have always been interested in Discipleship because I feel that the Body of Christ is built up through discipleship; not only in reaching the nations and bringing saints into the body, but becoming true Disciples of Christ first. I believe that Christs standards have been lowered to be in line with the worlds standards in some ways. I do not believe Christ is pleased with the way we as Christians go back and forth between the worlds standards and Kingdom standards. It is my desire to live in a way that is pleasing to God and that, in my opinion, is living as His son did while on earth. My journey has not been an easy one, but I would not trade it for the world. Although it is a struggle because we are flesh and blood, I believe we are able to live in this fleshly body and become Spiritual beings. We can live according to the Spirit and not flesh, but the mind must be trained to do it.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I would love to share what I have received through years of study and meditation on The Word of God. I would like to walk with interested persons through this book, The Standards of Christian Conduct as they discover Christ. I will point them to scriptures to back up what I say so they are able to go back and study them for themselves. It is my desire to share some things I have learned through years of experience in my quest for knowledge of Him.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This project has allowed me to explore my own standards and belief system and test them against the Word of God. In doing that and through much prayer, I began to endeavor to align my beliefs with what I say I stand for and what the Word says. I had many questions about what was "true" when it came to what the Lord expects of His children and how to live out those expectations. This project caused me to delve into the Word and journey into truths I never realized just practicing Christianity on a surface level.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have been influenced by, of course, The Holy Spirit" and the word of God. I have also learned a lot from my church and pastor. I am inspired by the teachings of Robert Morris, Bill Winston, Joel Olsteen, and many others who labor for the Word of God to bring the gospel to the world. I cherish the book "God Calling" and enjoy reading "Jesus Calling" and others that share what was received spiritually from our Lord.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I dont have all the answers for I am still growing in Christ daily. I would love the chance to express my love for Christ to others in speaking to them about my experiences with Him and about how He loves us and wants the best for us here and now and throughout all eternity.
