I have read this book several times. It is one you want to take slowly and chew the cud on. Truly God is Sovereign over everything, or therefore, He cannot be God and that thing becomes God, including men and their salvation.
There are versions of this book that unfortunately have removed the chapter on Reprobation. This version still contains it. Man is ever looking to make excuses for God's hard words in the Bible. Someone told me she cannot believe in a God that would choose some over others. Be careful what you say. I used to be free will minded, even argued with a professor in bible college!! I thank the Lord for His mercy in gently revealing my error and showing me the the truth from His word that salvation is God's from beginning to end. For free will friends, your God is still responsible for creating men whom He knew ahead of time would reject Him, and would be sent to Hell. We must cover our mouths and let God be God and not make excuses for Him.
If you ever had one book besides the Bible to understand and glorify your God, its this one by Pink.
Although I was very interested in reading this book becausse I find the title fascinating, I must say I thought that some chapters were as good as I expected, but others disappointing - I refer to the idea of 'predestination'. At times I was uncomfortable reading it, as I believe that some people might interpret it wrongly - I mean, some people might distort it and think that "simply" because they are Christians they are kind of "imune" to punishment.... I know that "maybe" that is not the book's message, but I'm sorry, it can appear like that, as some people might misuse the verse where Jesus says that no-one can pluck us from His hand, which is a wonderful thing, but if interpreted wrongly (which this book unfortunately gives rioom for it) some might take this as an "excuse" for doing wrong, as "they are already saved" - which I find it appalling.... They must remember that Jesus also told us to "REMAIN in him".....
Apart from the Bible itself, this is probably my favorite Christian book of all time. I first read it about 25 years ago and it changed my whole perception about God, giving me a much deeper appreciation of who He is. I have read it a few times since then, and like to have extra copies around to give to friends who desire a better understanding of His majesty and sovereignty.
I purchased this book two years ago and have read and re-read it many times. I am a Bible teacher and this is one book that I wish all my students would read. The Banner of Truth version does leave out the chapter on reprobation, as well as other important material; Baker doesn't. My only complaint with my copy is that it isn't a hardbound volume. When I find a good book, a doctrinally sound and valuable book, I prefer to acquire it in a binding that will last for a few generations at least. Nevertheless, you cannot find a better deal for a book that packs such a doctrinal wallop. Pink was one of the good ones!
Next to the Bible, this is a Must Read. Answers not only who rules this world, but also any questions on Election. If you have to eyes to see and ears to hear, much will become clear. I was raised in a fundamental, evangelical church and no one ever preached or taught this way. This will change how you see scriptures. I can't recommend it enough.
