While on the run for a crime she believes she has committed, Olivia Keene hears a secret she never meant to overhear, she finds herself trapped in a position in the house of a young nobleman who is desperate for some damage control, forced to play the part of a mute servant. is determined to prevent his life changing secret from ever coming to light.

Lord Bradley is determined to prevent his life changing secret from ever coming to light. He stands to lose everything if his attractive new maid opens her mouth. He needs a governess for the children in his care, so he places Olivia in the position so he can keep a watch on her, at least long enough to secure his future.

But someone already knows Lord Bradleys devastating secret, and no one knows just how far they will go to see it revealed. As time ticks away, mistrust and love fight their way between Lord Bradley and a servant girl he is never meant to have.

The Silent Governess is a good sweet read, but a bit slow for my personal tastes. I really did like Olivia, but Lord Bradley often got on my nerves. He could be a bit of a jerk sometimes. I do enjoy trying to figure out mysteries before the characters do, and I am happy to say that this one stumped me in a few places (one I really kicked myself for not having seen coming). Its a good sweet read for anyone looking for an easygoing historical romance.

    Safety ratings:

Romance: a couple of kisses. Several men do try to take take advantage of the main character but she manages to get away before anything actually happens. Infidelity is often mentioned and several characters were born out of wedlock.

Drinking/Drugs: one or two characters do get a bit drunk at points.

Violence: very little. There is a wild dog attack and as mentioned before, some men do try to get their hands on the main character.

This is the 2nd book by J. Klassen and I enjoyed it much more than the first book I read. It is intriguing and held my interest to the end. It could have been shortened by about 50 to 75 pages and one or two less characters, but still an interesting story, although not much of a "Christian" read. Still for intrigue and suspense I would recommend this one.

This is the third book that I have read by Julie Klassen and she is easily becoming a favorite author of mine. I enjoy all of her books and I think this one might be my favorite so far. I loved the story and the characters. I loved the fact that they couldn't be together because they were in different social classes, but there was still an attraction between them. The story also had a bit of mystery that made me want to keep on reading to find out what would happen. The story was well written and it was a unique storyline, which was refreshing to read. As the mystery began to unfold, I would be surprised by some of the revelations. This was a book that I couldn't put down and I would definitely recommend it!

Really enjoyed this book. Julie Klassen is one of my favourite authors, once I start reading I can't seem to put the book down because I'm enthralled with the characters and what's going to happen next. Big fan of the Jane Austen style of stories and Julie Klassen does it best!!!!

With each novel I read from Miss Julie Klassen I become more and more in love with her stories and her writing!

The Silent Governess is the third book I have read from Miss Klassen, and within its pages we journey with Olivia Keene. From the first few pages we learn that Olivia was trained by her father at a young age to be good with numbers. This knowledge as well as her schooling at Miss Cresswell's proves to be quite beneficial in her future. Especially when she flees everything she's known.

Lord Bradley is a fine character. Though at times he seems a little rough around the edges, he has a profound love for his young cousins. Watching he and Olivia grow in their faith and fall in love was so enjoyable. I spent most of the afternoon reading!

Once again Miss Klassen has provided a well thought out plot, characters, and a realistic setting that has me pining to go back. :-)

I checked this book out at the library. No review required.
