Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a retired Presbyterian pastor who spent many years telling stories to children at campfires or during children's time in worship. My wife, Beckie, and I have 3 grown sons and 9 grandchildren whom we call grand blessings. We live in Yuba City, California.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Every Christmas we would read the story of the shepherds going with haste to find the baby Jesus. I imagined that Haste was a little sheep dog leading the shepherds. I thought it would be interesting to children to hear about the life of Jesus from the perspective of his pet dog, Haste. This is book one of a series that may eventually have 8 or 10 stories.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope children (and adults alike) will gain a fresh enthusiasm for the events that took place in Jesus' life by hearing this story and others about Haste and Jesus.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I am a bit overwhelmed at the response from readers of the book. I originally thought this book would be nice for my grand children. But now I believe it has a much, much wider appeal.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Mr. Rogers was a Presbyterian pastor who had a huge influence on my sons' lives as they grew up. He was able to communcate to children in a unique way. He still inspires me to try to write stories that will touch children's lives in a positive way.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  We know Jesus loved children. I believe Jesus also had a sense of humor and would enjoy this imaginary story of a little dog becoming his friend and companion.
