Publisher's Description

Will Heidi's cooking lessons turn into life lessons for five unlikely students?

Heidi Troyer cooks up the idea of teaching classes in the art of Amish cuisine in her Holmes County, Ohio, home. But is it a recipe for drama when five very different men and women answer the advertisement?

Join a class of unlikely Ohioans who take cooking lessons at Lyle and Heidi Troyer’s Amish farm. A woman engaged to marry, an expectant mother estranged from her family, a widowed mom seeking to simplify, a Vietnam vet who camps on the Troyer’s farm, and an Amish widower make up the mismatched lot of students.

Class members share details of their disappointing lives, work to solve a mystery, and stir some romance into the pot. Soon Heidi’s cooking lessons turn into life lessons as they each share their challenges. . .and their souls are healed one meal at a time. Is this what God had in mind when Heidi got the idea for cooking classes?

Editorial Reviews

Brunstetter maintains the warmth and love of her other fiction. The mix of well-drawn Amish and "English" protagonists adds a flavorful accent to the narrative. Readers will be hard pressed not to take this book to the dinner table after reading the mouth-watering recipes included.

Fans of The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club series are likely to love Brunstetter’s latest. In fact, some characters even overlap. The cooking students easily pull the reader in, and the yummy recipes may leave you racing to the kitchen after reading this book. There is such a cozy feel to the story, but it is not a fluff message. All of the characters are dealing with realistic struggles, and it is interesting to see how they come together to help each other.

This is a light and easy read, like a delicious pie, that will make for a delightful afternoon reading with well-formed characters and sympathetic situations to draw from. Fans of Brunstetter’s previous works will eat this one up.

This first book in "Amish Cooking Class" series effectively blends simple storytelling and relevant plotlines dealing with real life issues. Topped with discussion questions and recipes, this charming inspirational Christian romance novel will leave readers savoring the next book.

Ms. Brunstetter is no stranger to the Amish way of life. As one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, it’s no wonder she would pen her next novel on such a topic. The story has a nice flow and balance with lots of believability infused throughout the story. The dialogue is rich and each character assumes a solid role in the part he or she plays as the story unfolds. There is no predictability toward the outcome and as a result, the reader will naturally continue to turn the pages and enjoy the journey from beginning to end. There is just enough fact about the Amish way of life sprinkled throughout the unfolding plot to intrigue a new comer to Ms. Brunstetter’s latest addition to her library of titles to entice the reader to perhaps take a step back and read another. Thank you for an enjoyable read Ms. Brunstetter.

Another great book by Wanda Brunstetter. Lyle and Heidi are desperately wanting children. Heidi thinks that she has nothing to fill her days without children in it. She celebrates when her friends have a new little one but, on the inside she is crying. So, Lyle comes up with the idea to have Amish cooking classes to to help her fill her time. Heidi isn't to sure about this but, starts the classes anyway. Boy, some of the characters that sign up are strange. What happens with these students? Do the cooking classes help Heidi and her yearning for children? are they successful?

The Seekers, by Wanda Brunstetter is the first in her Amish Cooking Class series. This was a wonderful book. I loved meeting Lyle and Heidi. I want to be their neighbors. I could feel Heidis pain regarding infertility and desiring desperately to be a mother. She and Lyle are a wonderful couple both serving each other and God, always willing to help others. I loved getting to know the various people that attended Heidis cooking classes and I also enjoyed being introduced to the various recipes that were included in the back of the book for me to experiment with as well. By the end of this book, I was excited to see the plans God seemed to be working out for Heidi and Lyle and couldnt wait to read the next book in the series. I also enjoyed how the author allowed closure for the reader with the lives of the attendees to the cooking class; yet at the same time, left things open enough for their stories to carry over into the next book.

Wanda Brunstetter is my favorite author! Her writing style engages you in the story from the very first chapter. Once you begin reading any of her books, you don't want to stop reading until you are finished! (And then you have to sit and wait patiently for the next book in her series!)

"The Seekers" is the first book in the "Amish Cooking Class" series. This book begins with an Amish woman named Heidi Troyer opening her home for an "Amish Cooking Class'. Five strangers, (male and female) sign up for her cooking class. Each student has a unique situation that they are dealing with in their personal lives. The cooking classes become something that each student looks forward to as well as Heidi. Students leave Heidi's home with a lesson in cooking as well as so much more!! You will definitely feel as if you know each character in this book personally as you read it! Wanda's writing style is so wonderful! After reading this book, I can't wait for book two in the series! An added bonus to this book is the wonderful Amish recipes that are at the end of the book! (less)

Six heartrending stories to pull on your sympathetic soul, yes I am including Heidi's story. Starting out with cooking in mind soon turns into some subtle counseling for the students, will they only learn how to cook or will it turn some lives around. If you enjoy Amish books you will enjoy this.

Heidi Troyer was lonely during the day when her husband Lyle was at work. There was only so much housework, gardening, and canning to do. Oh, how she longed for a child! They had been married eight years and God had not given them a baby yet. Heidi wanted to adopt but Lyle wouldnt even consider the idea.

Heidis aunt Emma gave sewing lessens. Those of you who read Wandas books remember Emma right?! Heidi wasnt that good at sewing but she loved cooking and baking. She decided to fill some of her time giving cooking classes. After getting approval from Lyle, she set about advertising her classes and had a small group of women and one Amish man attend. Eli was a widower and couldnt boil water!

Another man in attendance, reluctantly, was Ron Hensley. He asked for permission to park his motor home on their property until he could get it fixed. Of course, there was nothing wrong with it.

Heidi was suspicious of Ron from the start. Did she have reason to be? Like Emmas students, Heidis all had things going on in their lives that they shared with her. She shared bible verses with them every week with the food they took home.

Read about what was going on in the lives of Heidis students. What was Ron up to? You wont want to put this book down until you find out all about the men and women in the cooking class!
