Tell us a little about yourself. In October of 2007 I became a born-again Christian. At that point in my life I had been struggling through some negative life experiences and was at a low point. I decided that life just didn't make sense unless it included Jesus. So I guess you can say I surrendered it all to Him. But that was only the beginning.
Life as a Christian seemed very much like a roller coaster, with many ups-and-downs. At some point I needed to learn to let the Lord lead, give over control, and stop trying to do it all myself. Once I did that, my life began to change. The first major change was meeting the woman who would become my wife at the church we both attended. What started out as a friendship, blossomed into a full blown love-story, and nothing has been the same since. I married my best friend 4 years to the day that I surrendered my life to the Lord.
Since then we have been unfathomably blessed with two beautiful, healthy little girls. We are still madly in love, and enjoy spending our time together.
While not working, writing, or reading, my wife and I love to take the girls out for a hike or bike ride, so we can enjoy God's creation together.
What was your motivation behind this project? When I was in my early 20's I decided I wanted to write a book. I was an avid reader at that point, and loved the ability to get lost in a good story. So, I wanted to write one as well. As hard as I tried, and with all the "great" ideas I thought I had, I was never able to piece together a chapter, let alone a whole book. But, when I gave my life to the Lord the inspiration I had been missing before was now front and center. I had a purpose and a story. Much of what fills the pages of "The Search for Reason," is my own life story. Experience is the best teacher after all, and I thought all that I had gone through in my life made for a good story. So, with a little added narrative and hopefully some humor, I decided to pen my first novel. My desire when writing this book was to create characters that were easy to relate to, and to have a story that flowed effortlessly. In the end, my goal was to point people to Jesus Christ and the hope that He brings.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Hope, answers, reason, and most of all I hope folks will gain a glimpse of Jesus in the pages.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing a novel has long since been a dream of mine and I have to thank the Lord for helping me bring that dream to fruition. Much of my life I have felt like a failure, and this allows me to have something I can point to and say... yeah, I was able to do that.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Again, much of this story is based on my own life and people I have come across over the years. As an author, and avid reader one of my favorite authors in Max Lucado. I think after reading so many of his books, his style help to influence my own even though he doesn't really write fiction. One thing I always admired about his writing style is how easy he makes it to understand what he was saying. Hopefully I was able to do the same thing. My greatest inspiration of course, is the Lord. Without Him I wouldn't have had a story to tell, and as far as I'm concerned I wouldn't even still be alive. he kept me for a purpose and this story, and those that will follow are a part of that. Another great influence, and inspiration is my wife. She was by my side every step of the way, encouraging me, supporting me, and helping me believe I could do it. Many nights she went to bed alone as I stayed up late to tap away on the keys. Not once did she complain or recant of her support. I am truly blessed to have her as my own.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: "The Search for Reason," is going to be the first book in a three book series. I've started on the second, although it has been slow coming and difficult to find the time to write. But, keep your eyes open for the second book in the series. Lord willing, it will come sooner than I think.
