JanetAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Joss Ackland - An Excellent VersionJuly 25, 2021JanetAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've never been to a Max McLean performance of the Screwtape Letters, but would gladly go if I had the opportunity. I've listened to the version read by the very funny and cerebral John Cleese. I found John Cleese to be much too rapid in his delivery, barely conveying that he understood what he was reading and furthermore, didn't care. I thought it had an air of contempt throughout and wished he had pondered the book before committing it to recording. Joss Ackland has done what I hope Cleese would have done. Mr. Ackland has portrayed C. S. Lewis in film so he does have some "history" I much prefer this version of recording over any others and would recommend it over John Cleese always.
GiovannileoAge: 45-54Gender: male1 Stars Out Of 5This is a poorly organized dramatization/narrationJanuary 15, 2011GiovannileoAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I paid full price from Focus on the Family for this product and I was extremely disappointed in the way the story is handled. Changing between the actual role playing to the devils discussions was poorly organized and extremely frequent throughout. It was quite irritating....narration

WillsHancock, MIAge: 25-34Gender: femaleThis satire is an excellent portrayal of the thought process of satan and his tactics of subtleties, self centered logic and flesh driven indulgence. The letters could be an excellent source for listening and discussion sources for Sunday School classes. This is an excellent source for following the lines of back biting, confusion and dissension. Searching out scriptures and the benefits of belonging to Christ would be great a exercise to combat the logic satan uses with Wormwood. It is also is a great source to study boundaries.
Audre' Myers5 Stars Out Of 5March 12, 2010Audre' MyersAn awesome audio book! I enjoyed it immensely. I am new to C. S. Lewis and am now a fan. This book (on cds) is quite an indictment against the garden variety Christian-and, uncomfortably, you may see yourself in some of the exchanges. You have to be a fairly deep Christian, I believe, in order to see things as clearly as Mr. Lewis presents some of the ideas.Very intelligent and also some wicked fun! It's like sneaking a peek at old 'family' letters.I thought the actor, Joss Ackland, had the perfect voice for this demon and his presentation of Uncle Screwtape, to my mind, was perfect! This is great listen!
Wm. Richard Allen5 Stars Out Of 5January 7, 2010Wm. Richard AllenIt was very refreshing to hear proper English again. The Screwtape Letters are a treasure. They are a brilliant insight into are earthly and fleshly struggles presented in the most non-threatning manner for non-believers.
