A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below." At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation—and triumph over it—ever written.
Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.

Lewis escribió más de treinta libros, lo cual le permitió alcanzar una enorme audiencia, y sus obras aún atraen a miles de nuevos lectores cada año. WillsHancock, MIAge: 25-34Gender: femaleThis satire is an excellent portrayal of the thought process of satan and his tactics of subtleties, self centered logic and flesh driven indulgence. The letters could be an excellent source for listening and discussion sources for Sunday School classes. This is an excellent source for following the lines of back biting, confusion and dissension. Searching out scriptures and the benefits of belonging to Christ would be great a exercise to combat the logic satan uses with Wormwood. It is also is a great source to study boundaries.
Audre' Myers5 Stars Out Of 5March 12, 2010Audre' MyersAn awesome audio book! I enjoyed it immensely. I am new to C. S. Lewis and am now a fan. This book (on cds) is quite an indictment against the garden variety Christian-and, uncomfortably, you may see yourself in some of the exchanges. You have to be a fairly deep Christian, I believe, in order to see things as clearly as Mr. Lewis presents some of the ideas.Very intelligent and also some wicked fun! It's like sneaking a peek at old 'family' letters.I thought the actor, Joss Ackland, had the perfect voice for this demon and his presentation of Uncle Screwtape, to my mind, was perfect! This is great listen!

Debbie5 Stars Out Of 5October 5, 2009DebbieWOW - what a phenomenal look at people and our failings. Joss Acklund's reading is so superb you feel you are listening to the devil, himself. It is so easy to understand and brings the devils motives and the way he works so sharply into focus. While being humorous, it is at the same time very chilling. There are huge lessons for us all. I originally got this from the library. I was so moved by it, I feel the need to own it. I will be purchasing it so I can listen to it repeatedly for as a refresher.
